• Description: DLT (Digital Linear Tape) uses advanced linear recording technology, a highly accurate tape guide system, and an adaptive control mechanism to provide high-capacity, high-duty cycle backups. The DLT drive helps to reduce administration costs by providing up to 15 GB of native storage capacity for unattended operation. Built-in hardware compression provides up to 30 GB based on a 2: 1 compression rate. The DLT drive also reduces the effect of the shrinking backup window by providing a native data transfer rate of 4.5 GB per hour, which is 3-4 times faster than any other technology. With 2: 1 data compression, transfer rates of up to 9 GB per hour can be achieved. Based on today's classic backup software, the DLT drive provides a typical performance of 3-6 GB per hour. The highest possible performance, up to 45 GB per hour, can be easily achieved by combining 8 Compaq DLT drives and 4 SCSI controllers in a tape array using Cheyenne JETserve. Average access time for the DLT family is 45 seconds thanks to the built-in quick file access. This standard feature is always on-line and requires no backup software changes for use. Data integrity is ensured through a powerful Reed Solomon ECC featuring a 64-bit Cyclical Redundancy Check on each 4 KB of media data, end-to-end 16-bit CRC on each record overlapped with parity from the SCSI bus, and internal parity checking on the cache buffer. This results in an unequaled hard error rate of only one in 10 bits. All Compaq DLT drives have passed the Compaq testing and integration test. Compaq tests all new peripherals on test systems that simulate real world computing environments. Compaq tests tape drives on every network operating system available from Compaq with full user loads to ensure reliability in your environment. To make the DLT more manageable, Compaq has added new features to Compaq Insight Manager: Tape Drive Status Alert. With this feature, Insight Manager can alert you if something goes wrong in preparation for a backup. For example, if the drive power is turned off while waiting to execute a backup, Insight Manger will alert you, allowing you to correct the problem while there is still time to complete the backup.
