The DLT 8000 tape drive decreases your data backup time, gives you the flexibility to scale to a wide range of backup applications, and protects your investment in previous generations of DLTtape technology. Through a number of design and technological innovations, the Quantum DLT 8000 tape drive delivers higher performance, greater capacity, increased reliability, and more functionality at a better price. With a native capacity of 40GB (up to 80GB compressed) and data transfer rate of 6MB/second (up to 12MB/second compressed), the DLT 8000 platform represents a 15 percent gain in native capacity and 20 percent gain in native performance over current DLTtape systems. To ensure superior accuracy, the DLT 8000 boasts a recording head life of more than 50, 000 hours, media durability greater than 1, 000, 000 media passes, and a MTBF of 250, 000 hours at 100% duty cycle, which is 25 percent greater than the pervious DLTtape products. The drive uses variable speed recording to accommodate variations in host throughput to maximize performance.
