The unique Memory-In-Cassette feature of Sony AIT tape technology, with 64-Kbits of built-in memory, speeds access to data, providing fast loading (less than 10 s) and quick file access (27 s). A compact external enclosure with built-in power supply and cooling fan makes it easy to add AIT tape technology to existing systems. An industry standard SCSI interface simplifies connection while providing fast data throughput. Sony AIT drives incorporate a Super Head Cleaner mechanism, activated automatically by the drive mechanism when tape errors approach a certain threshold. Sony AIT tape drives incorporate a redesigned head geometry, reducing head/tape pressure and delivering up to 50, 000 hours of head life and an industry leading MTBF rating of 300, 000 POH.
