The new SDX-400C is a value-line series based on the AIT-1 standard, packing a capacity of 35GB (uncompressed) per cartridge with a data transfer rate of 4MB/sec. The new models offer superior functions such as data backup/archive media. The compact and convenient cartridge is of the 3.5 inch drive form factor size, which makes it easier to build the drive into a PC or a server. The drive reduces friction between the head and the medium, as well as adopting a tape feeding mechanism and an electric tension sensor exclusively designed for computer use, thereby providing high reliability and durability. The AIT format adopts a consistent design concept to, as much as possible, reduce wear of the mechanism part and the tape itself. One example of this is the self-cleaning function, which prevents the head from collecting contaminants and reduces errors.
