• Description: S-AIT is the new format specifically designed for backup systems in mission-critical environment and large-scale storage systems. It's the solution of choice where high speed, large capacity, trustworthy reliability and rugged durability are required. The high-speed transfer models feature Ultra 160 SCSI and a 2-Gbps fiber channel interface for blistering performance. S-AIT uses numerous precision mechanisms to safely record important data. The simple tape loading mechanism increases tape chucking reliability. The thin grooves are machined to create a stable air film just micron thick on the drum, thus reducing tape load and keeping the tape in uniform contact with the head even at low tape tension. A powerful error correction scheme is used that does not re-write the data in units of helical track, but re-writes data in small data block units, even if they have different height. This scheme enables data to be re-written with small loss of data capacity and high efficiency. And by using 3-level error correction codes, data reliability is significantly improved. The S-AIT uses a sealed structure, with the heat-generating circuit boards completely separated from the mechanism. This structure keeps out dust and maintains durability.
