AVOID... "EXTREMELY UNRELIABLE."

POORLY MADE.
I've owned Logitech products from their early days and was always happy with their products.
THIS PARTICULAR PRODUCT... if it is one of theirs... IS A LITERAL PIECE OF GARBAGE that relegates the company to sub-"0".
2nd Trackball and the same problem... works for a brief period, then functions stop working.
Communication with its receiver constantly fails, even if you're only inches away.
This product should NEVER be on the market.
Tracking is choppy, not smooth as other trackballs.
No major stores carries it because they were constantly being returned, according to two major office supply store managers I spoke to.
"AVOID" or Regret it!

Great product

Summary: I absolutely love trackballs. I prefer the ones that use the middle and index finger over the thumb. I have used trackballs for over 10 years, and will not go back to the conventional mouse. I have owned Logitech's Marble mouse, in two versions. They both still work, and I have had no problems with them. I bought this one because I wanted to upgrade to wireless.
At around $60 it's on the higher end of wireless mice. Based on a quick search of Best Buy wireless mice range from $25-$100. You can get a wired Marble Mouse for anoud $20, that works equally as well, just a few buttons and the scroll wheel.
THe features on the trackball are great, and there are so many buttons on it, and several of them are programable. I'm still getting used to the button placement, as I have in the pst used the Marble mouse, which places the buttons closer to the marble.
Based on a few of the other comments on this item, there seems to be a durability problem with this product. I have not epxerienced this, and the produce has a 5 year warranty.
All in all I think that this is an excelent prdouct, and great for those of you who like to have the mouse in the same sopt every time you reach for it. and don't want to move your entire arm around when you use a mouse.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Excellent trackball
by stevenov on January 28, 2006
Pros: I can place it anywhere on the desk top which allows me to change body positions. Back and Forward buttons.
Cons: Takes a bit of learning to get your fingers to do what your mind wants them to do.

Summary: I've always prefered trackballs over mice. I've used several Logitech trackballs but all of them have been wired. They never wear out but I like to upgrade. I especially like that I can position the device anywhere on my desktop. Sometimes I like it to be next to the keyboard, sometimes closer to the monitor when I'm intensly surfing or gaming.
I've used it for about a month now and have not had any problem with it being wireless. It works as well as any corded trackball I've owned. It did take some time to relearn finger positions. Initally I hit the right button accidently but I've learned to keep that finger off the hair trigger right button. The left button takes some pressure to activate but the right button is very sensitive.
I would like to have more options in programing the buttons though. It would be nice to be able to program one of the buttons to bring up "My Documents".
Overall I'm very satisfied with the TrackMan.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Feature rich, suffers from poor quality

Summary: From a functionality standpoint I love this mouse, it is very comfortable to use. Unfortunately I'm on my second RMA, the first from broken buttons and the second because the plastic ball bearings have worn in 2 months of use and the trackball no longer glides smoothly. There are also problems with the pointer bugging out randomly and the scroll buttons cause the mouse to wig out every time you press them. It's a great mouse but unfortunately the quality is substandard.

Great trackball but new version is better.
by tarsus1983 on July 27, 2010
Pros: -Comfortable and easy on the wrists
-Long lasting batteries
-Lots of programmable buttons
-Great for gamingCons: -Wireless sensor and cord is annoying on laptops

Summary: So I transitioned to this trackball from a Keningston Expert Mouse a long time ago and I'll never go back. I'm on my third trackman right now, the new darker version without the bad coating. My first still works but the left click button is finicky and is annoying to work with. My second is in use on my secondary computer and my newest on my main desktop.
The reason why I haven't switched is due to comfort and gaming. I've noticed that I was able to do a lot of things most gamers weren't able to do, being able to spin the ball for a continuous stroke in the same direction as well as programming so many functions at the tips of my right hand.
My main gripes are due to the lack of precision when using photoshop or other illustrating program. On the Keningston, I could easily go from one pixel on one side of the screen to another pixel on the other side. I could easily draw a straight line to those pixels without using a line tool. This trackball will slightly wave a bit. The older models also had an annoying coating that rubbed off after a while. It didn't hinder function any but it was rather disguising looking.
Ultimately, while an expensive product, it's worth every penny. I wish more people would buy trackballs so companies like Logitech would be encouraged to improve on them more. As it is now, I almost feel like I need to buy a couple for reserve in case they stop making them. -
Best Trackball I Have Found

Summary: The Logitech Cordless Optical Trackman is the best trackball I have owned. It has a solid, weighted feel and saves desk space over any conventional mouse. Once the receiving unit is set, there is no wire clutter on my desk. I wore out two Microsoft trackballs before buying this one; it has now lasted for 7 1/2 years of everyday use. The ball guides do get dirty as does the sensor, but a quick wipe with a lens cloth or a Q-tip and the problem is fixed. Overall, the unit seems to be well made. I prefer a fingertip trackball over a thumb style, so it fits my needs well. Primary button placement has a natural feel to them, but scroll wheel and related buttons feel a little awkward, though I use them rarely. For my money, this has been a great investment for an input device. I will never go back to a conventional mouse.

Summary: I bought this four days ago. I'm returning it today. The functions are are impressive, however, the bulkiness caused by the battery compartment in the mouse make it very uncomfortable to use. Also, I find the cordless option unnecessary since once placed on my desk, only the ball and buttons move.
The batteries are an extra worry. The cord is not a problem.

Great for keeping hand free from repetitive strain injury.
by rwandco on September 22, 2007
Pros: Can reprogram large right mouse button to use as Select Button. I use it with my left hand, although I am right handed. Stationary use (no mouse pad required). Wireless attribute keeps desk clear.
Cons: Must reprogram. Programmed "select" button, should have been large and required a "light" touch to use. It requires a "hard" touch and is too small.
Summary: Great Mouse! I reprogrammed the large right, light touch, black button to use as my Select button (select is usually on the left). I am right handed, but use this ...
Summary: Great Mouse! I reprogrammed the large right, light touch, black button to use as my Select button (select is usually on the left). I am right handed, but use this mouse with my left hand. Using it this way, I give the product very high marks. With this reprogramming, the large button only takes a light touch to use. The default select button (on right, silver) should have been much larger and light touch.
Updated
I meant to say default select button is the small silver button on the LEFT. It requires a "hard" touch to use. So you should reprogram for comfort. -
Always loved Trackballs!

Summary: i have had this trackball mouse for a few years now and had a few others before but this one has lasted longer then any other trackball I have owned.
Well constructed and well used and have done lots of fragging in games.
Response time is exceptional and always seems to stay connected.
I recommend using rechargeable batteries with any wireless desktop devices.
i original got into using trackballs because the regular mouse used to hurt my palms and having to pick the mouse up move it over all the time trying to frag someone in games really sucked...
Although now they have optical mouse's with 3k DPI...
