Summary: I have used the Delorme Street Atlas since 2002, I have had very few complaints. The 2007 version however takes me way out of the way on several routes that I have routed, on a 500 mile trip, it took me 75 miles out of the way. I use it alot for my job and I just can't rely on it. I will be sending it back for refund and continue using my 2006 version.

Summary: Having worked in the software industry for over 20 years I generally feel when I pick up a new piece of consumer software that I can generally figure things out quickly and when I stumble a couple quick looks into the help will solve all my problems. If someone like me can’t figure this out somewhat intuitively - good luck to the rest of you.
I have spent over 6 hours trying to plan a cross country trip and I am nothing but frustrated. Everything that you would think is of to navigate a map is missing; when you scroll your mouse down it zooms out instead of in, like every other application in the market that zooms with a mouse wheel. When you want to pan across the screen to show map details off the page you would think to click and drag like all the internet provides and adobe – nope not that one either. I could go on and on but I don’t want to spend anymore time on this product.
I plan on sending this back for the ”30-day money-back Guarantee” they promise on the back of the box. Even if they don’t refund it I will throw in the garbage.
I’ll post an update later when I find a better product.

Popup balloon tips force you to move the mouse to create a route. The program does not have a standard windows menu. Sure would be nice to alt-tab with drop down actions and alternate shortcuts.
Routing leaves much to be desired. I know Boston well and more often than not I only use the map when I get close to see the actual street. One ways that don't show up on the map are a constant irritation. Streets dead end at railroads but appear as through-ways. Directions say take a left, but a left turn is illegal. Other times directions say turn but the road is divided, etc.
Custom routing enables the user to edit the map to make corrections, but there are too many to deal with.
The program crashes frequently, most often coming out of hibernation on a laptop .
I use the software daily. I hope for a day when an upgrade comes along that approaches 100% accuracy with a helpful rather than awkward user interface. This IS an indispensable tool, but it could be SO much better.

Summary: Graphics: Extremely poor and slow. The technology used by delorme is about 15 years old. It requires directx installation, but doesn't utilize any of the hardware graphics acceleration. The appearance of the maps, especially 3D is poor.
Routing: Poor... better inspect a route visually before taking it.
Interface: Very poor. Almost no thought went into deisging the user interface.
Conclusion: Unforyunately there are only a small handful of American companies producing GPS software. All very poor. No international competition in this market has resulted in very poor design and qulaity, something like a american car back before the 80's.
Don't expect future versions to be any better until we see some fierce competition from the international market.
Until then use google maps, google earth. It requires a Internet connection so its not very mobile, except on cell phones.
