EZ to hook up, could use a few more features
by Loujs on June 26, 2009
Pros: Was easy to hook up. The menu is easy to navigate. Scanning for channels is simple and takes a short time. the ZOOM feature will make the picture bigger but may cut off outside parts of it.
Cons: It powers itself off for no apparent reason, bad if you set a VCR to tape via it. Can't ADD a channel that may be weak/ not there all the time. Their on screen guide on my 20" TV has small print - hard to read across the room. NO on unit controls.
Summary: This was the only one BEST BUY carried at the time. I had a day or 2 to use my $40 off coupon and this was it. It did get ...
Summary: This was the only one BEST BUY carried at the time. I had a day or 2 to use my $40 off coupon and this was it. It did get OK ratings in the reviews I read up to then so I bought it. I did not hook it up nor scan for channels till June 12th. I do rescan from time to time but there's no real changes. Our channel 7 was there on the 13th but the signal may be too weak to be scanned in and set. There is no way of adding it without doing a complete scan. And this unit does power itself off for some reason. I don't know if one of my other remotes is affecting it or if it's suppose to do that or if there's a defect- I'm still checking. There is a 'sleep' setting. I have it set to max 5 hrs. This is bad if I have a VCR set to record via this box and I go out for more than 5 hrs.It has NO on unit controls- ie power off/on; channel up/down
After a year of mediorce service my Apex DT 502 died! It failed to turn ON the other day. Repeated tries of the power button on the remote or front panel did turn it to green and on. Then the only display I got was an all BLUE screen. No setup, no 'weak signal', no sound, nothing but blue. Prior to this, it did have trouble turning on and it would pixelate the display or affect the sound. Turning it off then on would clear it to normal. I should have listened to the reviews at the time and bought anything else- but this was on sale and I had a $40 off coupon I had to use soon. If you are considering buying a DT 502- do your homework. I'm sure the warranty ran out after 90 days and for a good reason. (PS sorry if there's 2 reviews- a mis-keystroke wiped out what I had typed and I had to do it over- I hope I got the same message across)
All in all, OK for the price if you got a coupon. Check it out right away and if it's flakey like mine- take it back before it's too late and get something else.

by Grandma_Valkyrie on March 9, 2009
Pros: Easy set up and has smart antenna input.
Has signal strength button

Favorites buttonCons: If you loose your remote your screwed.
It has no channel changing buttons on the box only power button.
Will not work with my universal remote.
When you change the volume it sometimes change channels or vice a versaSummary: I bought it because it was the only one in my area. I one bought one to try it before I bought a second one. I'm glad I did. ...

The device malfunctions after so many years, it is junk
by currter on February 3, 2013
Pros: None, it stops functioning after about 2 years.
Cons: 3 out of 4 of these devices have malfunctioned.
The 2 I owned both stopped working over a few years and the
ones my relative owns , only one survives and continues to work.
So the 3 we had together have been discarded.Summary: 3 out of 4 of these devices have malfunctioned. I believe we

and so 4 of these were purchased with the rebates.

Don't or Try not to buy this one or else you may end up
throwing it in the garbage. For myself I bought
an Insignia one that seems to have more functions and a better
quality product but it is too early to tell. -
Worst piece of consumer electronics I have ever seen
by dbdataplus on February 28, 2011
Pros: Not a single thing
Cons: Operation is horrible. Sometimes "OK" means "select" other times "EXIT" means select. Guide is useless. Once you use the guide your "last channel" gone. If you get a channel that temporarily has No Signal. Unit can hang, requiring pulling the AC

The remote worked for a day.
by HermJ on December 22, 2009
Pros: I got it working easily.
Cons: Remote is terrible. When i called Apex support i got the distinct feeling that the operator was chained to a radiator in some dank basement with stained carpets stapled to the walls.
Summary: Booo! I felt sorry for the operator at Apex. She said she'd replace the remote for $18 but wouldn't say if it was the same model or some ...
Summary: Booo! I felt sorry for the operator at Apex. She said she'd replace the remote for $18 but wouldn't say if it was the same model or some new model or if it was even a remote she would be sending. When i said i'd prefer to look at something on the website and if she knew a popular replacement model, she told me to go to the warehouse (somewhere in CA). I live in Oregon. It was awesome and funny and sad and food for the imagination.

Loses settings and need to be constantly reset.
by rbsslc on October 7, 2009
Pros: Paper weight?
Cons: Bought 4 units. None will hold settings very long..
Will not hold settings and must be repeatedly reset.
The support site is a worthless as their DT502 product.Summary: Must be reset constantly. I would bet that if you are like us, you purchased it for an elderly parent or relative that cannot reset the product and you have ...

Works OK but ...
by don_wheat_ridge on February 1, 2009
Pros: EZ setup is about it
Cons: Volume goes up about 20% during advertisements. VERY ANNOYING. Late night tv watching at normal volume wakes up poeple in the house when ad comes on.
Summary: No choice, I think they all do it and I think it is designed in by the advertisers. They probably bribed govt officials to allow it.
