Summary: I recently borrowed a Sony Video converter to made DVD's from Hi8 camcorder tapes. it worked so well I went to buy one but they no longer make it. I bought a Pinnacle Dazzle Video Creator Platinum. May as well have thrown $88 dollars away. It just doesn't work and their on-line help has no idea how to make it work. after dozens of hours I gave up. Buyer beware....bad product and company.

Summary: I did not experience the same troubles most others seemed to. The DVD I created from a HI8 8mm cassette came out perfect. The Studio 10 software package is very powerful but not very intuitive to use, it did take a lot of trial and error to get the production where I wanted it, but I did not have to waste but 1 DVD to get there.

Summary: I bought Dazzle Video Creator Platinum because it is a "hardware video encoder" (Dazzle DVD Recorder, the red one is a software encoder) that can capture video from an analog source and save it directly to the hard drive in either Mpeg 1, Mpeg 2, Mpeg 4, and DivX formats. If you don't have that much space in your hard drive you can burn captured video directy to a DVD. All great features. Great for backing up tapes to DVD.
What is remarkable is that I have an old Dell 600m laptop (upgraded to 1gb ram, Win XP Home) and I didn't think it was capable of doing audio, video and photo editing until I bought Dazzle. Software encoding takes too long. When I travel I'd like to be able to set up some sort of a mobile studio where I can organize photos and videos. My friends and I love planning vacations and it's nice to be able to give then a DVD copy of the videos right before we go home and go our separate ways.
Installation was very easy. There's a sticker on the box that says "Install Software First". So I installed all the software that came with it. It asked me to restart. I did. Plugged the capture hardware into the USB port. Started Studio 10. No problems at all. I mentioned that it only has analog inputs but you can capture video from a mini-dv camcorder if you have a firewire port (I bought a firewire pcmcia card for $14 at Fry's) but it's not as quick as hardware encoding on the fly.
Software is not very difficult. There are three tabs: Capture, Edit, Make Movie. It's obvious what these all mean. For now I've been using mostly Capture to transfer analog video into a 250gb external hd connected to my laptop. I've tried editing and making a movie and it works great. I don't have a PSP or a video IPOD but you can also convert video that plays in these devices.
Overall I am very happy with the product. The $89 I dished out was well spent. I recommend this product.2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great value for what you pay
by ipod59874 on February 23, 2008
Pros: Great Editing and Great Capture Quality
Cons: I had to download patches
Summary: Everything about the product itself is great. I had to download 3 patches to get all parts of the product to work, but it wasn't horrible.

Summary: I can honestly say that this is the worst product that I have ever purchased. The software wouldn't intall. It wouldn't uninstall either. Support was horrible. The hardware doesn't work either. It is missing a driver that Windows can't find. My computer was so gummed up from this monstrosity that it took me days to get it back to working order. Avoid by all means!
