The Samsung DVD VR375 covers the past, present & future
by mg2018 on December 27, 2008
Pros: You CAN record from your Top Set Box, SAT and the manual explains that some copyright protection may limit the number of copies /protocol settings for the allowed # of recording(s) you can copy for personal use. Read the manual, it addresses this.
Cons: None , other than much to learn and set up initially but it well worth taking the time for great end results and settings.

Summary: This Unit does take into consideration the many transitions and changes within the last 10 years and solves them. The VCR portion plays and records from input source connected. Also EZ dubbing from tape to DVD. The Unit also takes into consideration the many new DVD formats -Minus, + Plus and RW's etc. This is a versatile DVD Recorder and handles most, if not all media. Stick with Name Brand Media, Verbatim is # 1
Unfortunately after using the VHS to DVD dubbing feature (which was not a priorty for many months) it is a total disappointment with the seriously out of synch between picture and sound.. a real bummer!
and keep in mind (the lower speed aka, rate X8 2X ) is better than 16 X discs. Those are primarily for computers. But will work on this unit, but stand alone DVD recorders like the slower speeds for recording. The DVD/VCR DUAL Recorders
also is nice to have, not that you'd be wanting to record much on VHS. The HDMI out to TV improves the quality of the signal with clear, crisp reproduction. This Unit also records clear, crisp images with proper input to the recorder. Example: If you have a HD Cable box with 108i signal to your TV, this unit is able to handle the image and replay is a pleasant surprise. If you are only importing 500 lines of resolution, then of course it will not have as much punch. The key is what source to both your TV and the Recorder will have the clearest picture and sound. It does allow copying from pay cable stations ..but you have to read this section on how to set up and follow protocol for the varying allowable copies . You will be far more disappointed with this Recording System if you don't read up on these improvements and settings to address issues such as Lines of Resolution, Standard and HI Def signals, control of aspect ratio of the playback picture to fit the screen, etc.
This unit does perform but there is much to learn and setup at first but the pay off is excellent picture, sound and compatibility. ! A real winner.

Performs well

Summary: This player performs great. I record HD content to DVD discs through an S cable connection. And although you lose some signal strength through the S cable, the recorded content looks excellent after recording. Very satisfied and know that I can record movies and content at a high DVD quality which is much better than VHS recordings. Moreover, its easy to use and after finalizing the discs have great playback on other DVD players around the house.

Died in less than 6 months

Summary: Very disappointed! I got this model because it had good reviews. I really liked it because it was easy to use and did a great job; HOWEVER, it totally died in no time. I bought it in Nov 07 and the DVD player died in April. Was going to have the DVD repaired, but now the VCR side is going out a month later. Might as well junk it and start over with something else. You could try it and maybe not have the problems, but under the circumstances, I couldn't recommend it.

So far, this is a lousy unit.
by dziadzia89 on September 17, 2009
Pros: None. Not yet anyhow. If I get this working then I might have something better to say.
Cons: Main reason for purchase was to record tons of family VHS tape to DVD. After going though initial setups, this feature does no work at all. Will keep trying but I dont have much hope at this point.
Summary: Seems to do a lot but the one reason I got it (VHS-DVD) does not work! What can I say?

Didn't last one year
by mommaria on March 15, 2009
Pros: I was able to convert some of my VHS's to DVD before it died
Cons: When I insert a good DVD it would 1) tell me "no disc" and not open again for awhile 2) tell me "disc can not be read or recorded" and spit it back at me. We bought this (not cheap!) less than a year ago and it is already dead. Not worth the money.

Lots of flaws. Look elsewhere.
by mickmacguy on January 15, 2009
Pros: Um, lots of inputs & outputs. Good thing, because some didn't work!
Cons: HDMI out was either discolored or wouldn't work at all. SVHS input wouldn't record via timer to DVD. DVD discs tended to skip on playback towards end of a movie. Obtuse operating system. Even worse manual. God help you if you lose the remote.
Summary: Avoid it.

Complicated hook up - Audio out of sync on dubbed DVDs
by riverlegacy on October 5, 2008
Pros: Price was moderate
Cons: Manual was incomplete in many places and was misleading in others. Hook up had to be completed from online research and chat rooms!
Summary: DVDs recorded from VHS tapes often had audio that was out of sync with picture. This was not due to copyrighted tapes. Just a finicky machine that I do not ...

Almost total waste of time and money.
by DWakef on October 2, 2011
Pros: Literally hundreds of wasted hours and dollars giving the thing yet another chance. Four usable DVDs from VHS copies made vs 31 junk/unreadable disks. That's the good part: Four good ones.
Cons: 88% failure rate dubbing from tape to DVD. Large cost of time and money for no results. Nothing but frustration and a pile of DVDs it won't read once it spits them out. They will not play on anything else either. The computers won't recognize them. T

So far, a reliable machine.
by Subtrunk on August 13, 2011
Pros: Plays and records good.
Cons: Only con I have is that the front panel lights are very dim and very hard to read or see from more than approx. 1-2 ft. Have to get up out of recliner to even see if the power light is on.
