- The 2012 Mini Cooper S Countryman maintains the fun character established by Mini's other models, and all-wheel drive will give confidence on slippery roads. Cabin tech, however, is middling, with app integration limited to the iPhone.

2011 Mini Cooper Countryman S price range: $26,950.00

The good: Despite its size, the 2011 Mini Cooper S Countryman maintains nimble handling, partly due to the All4 all-wheel-drive system. The efficient and powerful engine uses direct injection and a turbo. The Mini Connected option integrates smartphone apps with the car.
The bad: The cabin suffers from some very poor ergonomic design, and a supposedly innovative center rail limits it to four passengers. The Countryman lacks Bluetooth audio streaming.
The bottom line: The 2012 Mini Cooper S Countryman maintains the fun character established by Mini's other models, and all-wheel drive will give confidence on slippery roads. Cabin tech, however, is middling, with app integration limited to the iPhone.

Has Great Potential
by AllBecomeOne on August 1, 2012
Pros: The styling is endearing. The roof and mirror colors add charm. The driving experience is quite fun. There is nothing in this size that compares. Even a Honda CR-V looks like a monstrosity in size compared to the cute and compact Countryman.
Cons: Interior design needs an upgrade. Center rails must go. Navi needs improving. Window controls moved to the doors. Cupholders relocated. Center console is too small. Runflat tires ride too harsh, need ditching and a spare tire offered.
Summary: This is a fun and cute vehicle. BMW needs to improve the interior design, offer a spare tire and ditch the run flat tires. The base model grille should be ...
Summary: This is a fun and cute vehicle. BMW needs to improve the interior design, offer a spare tire and ditch the run flat tires. The base model grille should be an option in the S model and the base should have the power of the S and the S even more power. With some improvements it has the segment of small, compact and sporty to itself.

Summary: One user-reviewer on here said that this was a poor piece of journalism simply because the journalist was stating their experience with the car. Sort of like the user-reviewer was doing when defending a car- that they own themselves. Not too biased.
The user-reviewer also adamantly states that this is "NOT all wheel drive all time all 4-wheel drive" but in fact it is. The journalist was correct in using that terminology because the All-4 Countryman is permanently engaged so technically it is all the time 4-wheel drive and the computer decides where to disperse the power. There is no shift-on-the-fly button, or manual way to decide whether or not you want front or all wheel drive. So, there you have it, all the time all-wheel-drive.
Crime shame that engine seized up like that. As an owner of CooperS I can assure those who put over 30,000 miles on the car will most definitely have issues going forward. -
Great car, perfect size.

Pros: Connected feature is cool and has a lot of potential for useful features, but even if you don't have an iPhone you can still use the integrated media player.
With Connected and the rear parking sensor, you get an awesome on-screen display showing you wherCons: Gas tank is a little too small, you can get a bit over 300 miles from a tank (more if you drive carefully or mostly highway), but I'd like to see 350-400.
Rail system is very cool but current rail accessories are not that great.

Summary: I have had this car for a few weeks now, and I love it. I needed just a little more space, just a little more clearance, and AWD that my original MINI could not give me - this is a perfect fit for me. I plan to be wandering all over the back forest roads in Colorado. While it's by no means a Jeep it's just right to handle a lot of back country wild ill-maintained roads. Although I mentioned the gas tank is small, it gets decent mileage - I can average around 31 on a trip with mostly highway and some city driving, and 27 for mostly city use. For a car with this much room that seems really good.
Most importantly to me, it still drives like a MINI. Yes the cornering is not as tight. But steering responsiveness is still great (especially with sport mode on) and road feedback is there letting you know how the car and the road are getting along. -
Design oriented, tech savvy and performance minded MINI

Pros: IIHS named the MINI Countryman as a "2011 Top Safety Pick" winner. Performs more like a MINI not a crossover.
Cons: Brake handle seems large. Chrome grill only on the Cooper, not an option for the Cooper S version.

Summary: The biggest MINI the line has ever offered. Great for a family or someone who needs more storage that the previous models couldnt meet. Classic MINI design incorporated in to the interior cabin and exterior features. Great benefits in each of the following categories: Power and Performance, Safety and Secutiry, Comfort and Convenience,Ownership, and You-ification. Its great to have a brand out there that is committed to building premium quality and excellent reliability into each car.

Great looking not always practical car.

Pros: The looks, the handling the motor and gear box combination, the fact that it is a little different. Built with quality.
Cons: The price, very little comes standard.

poor piece of journalim/Cnty/prive value is incredible
by tomcaloia on May 14, 2011
Pros: love the car, it's balance in handling considering it easily fits 4 people, overall quality of materials and construction
for a starting price (base 2 wheel drive, under $22000, that has enough standard "stuff" to be quite livable.
Clutch play is minimCons: Would like to see some colors carried over from the Oxford plant, rather than ALL different colors.
Wish the front seat back adjustment was on the inboard side of the seat instead of near the b pillar.

Summary: Sad to see a piece of automotive journalism that people read as an expert guide with so many inaccuracies. It is NOT all time all 4-wheel drive, but front wheel drive with the ability to transfer up to 50% to the rear wheels. The use of standard front wheel drive primarily preserves fuel consumption. To start an article with the words "positively portly, pumped up version" certainly casts a negative light only to be followed paragraphs later, that it handles quite nimbly, even in the front wheel drive mode. All of the center rail accessories are moveable, so having the iPod cradle under the brake lever is an operator error, not a design flaw. I guess my frustration is you pay guys to write inaccurate inform for the masses to believe.
