  The bargain basement goes up a floor

  Summary: Note that the Part Number for THIS camera is 961454-0215 (it matches the image above) and although it shares the same name with older models, it is NOT the technology. This one claims to be VISTA ready, and features RightSound, RightLight, and Face-Tracking.
  
  I found the STX on sale at Staples for $39 CDN, and took a chance that it was a good upgrade from the QuickCam Messenger that I've had for the last year or so. For a bargain basement price, this DOES seem to be well worth the upgrade. THe picture and sound IS more clear, and face tracking, though slow, makes for a much better image!
  
  I'm looking forward to seeing if the "echo-free" claims come through - it was easily the most irritating caveat of the old Messenger; to the point we simply turned off the built in microphone. The new STX claims that "RightSound" will cure that particular ill, but I've yet to test it out in a two-way voicechat.
  
  So far, for the improved image, and reportedly clearer sound (one-way, anyway), it was worth the upgrade!

  The STX does indeed dramatically reduce echo in two way video chats - though mileage may vary depending on the kind of cam the OTHER party in your conversation is using.

  Pros: Doesn't require that much computer to run.

  Cons: Built in mic not that good.

  Summary: If I use the built in mic and speakers I always get an echo no matter where the placement. A headset works much better for me.

  Summary: It's a pretty good webcam. No problems at all, easy to install. Had this for a little over a year. It's worth buying if you plan to use it for a desktop. It's still able to adjust on your laptop, but you'll have to tie up the wires in case u wanna move around w/ your laptop. Bottom line, if your looking for a cheap and a good quality webcam, I recommend this.

  great webcam for the price

  Summary: I purchased this product based on the favorable reviews it has received for its pricepoint. Installation was easy, I was generally happy with the camera (my first, so I don't have much to compare it to) but the first time I tried to use it I blasted my son's eardrums by sending loud bursts of static periodically over Skype. Long story short, I researched this on the Logitech board and discovered that there is a long standing potential problem with all models of 5.1/7.1 surround sound audio cards and Logitech webcams models above the 9.x series (they are currently in the 11.x's) The only solution they could offer users experiencing the problem was to disable the webcam microphone and use a different one.
  
  This issue has been around for at least two years. You would think Logitech would make their latest generation of webcams compatible with the latest generation of soundcards, but judging from the tech support board, they have made no progress in doing so since 2005.
