Awesome Camera - Even though some people can't figure out the simple install procedure...

Pros: Excellent Video Quality - Excellent Audio Quality (That's the point - right?)

Summary: I'm not sure what all of these people who are having trouble installing the software are doing - it took me a total of about 4 minutes from the time I opened up the box until I was testing out the face tracking mechanism on my pc...
Here's the important step many people are probably messing up here - INSTALL THE SOFTWARE FIRST - BEFORE PLUGGING THE UNIT IN - This is step number 1 listed in the manual.
Anyway - the video quality is excellent (best I've seen on any webcam - equal to the Notebook Pro model). I think the audio quality is top notch as well - not as good as a set top mic but, what did you expect?
The only con - if you can really call it that - is with the face tracking mechanism. It does seem to follow the lightest part in the screen in dimly lit situations. In well-lit situations - I don't seem to have any problems with it. But at night, it likes to focus in on the lights in the background. In these instances, I simply turn off the face tracking and control it using the onscreen controls - which is a great touch.
All in all - I only gave it an 8 because of this moving mechanism - this was one of the reasons I bought it and it doesn't work perfectly. But then again, for $100, you can't really expect CIA quality surveillance technology. I think its more than just swell for a webcam.

Nice gimmick, but temperamental
Pros: Good image, easy to use controls, fun to play around with, but..
Cons: The auto zoom and face tracking features are difficult to control unless you have very evenly distributed lighting and no hot spots - mistakes light bulbs and pictures for faces, so unless you want to have a conversation with a light bulb, use manual cont

Summary: I don't own this webcam, but I'll be sure to buy one after looking at it from the other side of the world i.e. 7 thousand miles away. Talk for at least 2 hours.
Watch Tv on the other side of the world.
The picture is not great, but the voice over is pretty good. Compare to many of the webcam this ranks the highest on my list.
Yes, the face tracking is annoying.
Disable it and it works just fine.
Logitech needs to work on the speed frame capturing. Other than that it works pretty good.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great visual (not entirely user friendly)
by mknight_13101 on April 23, 2007
Pros: Visual is great, tracking only good when works (turn zoom off)
Cons: Noisy, Not simple to install and had issues with msn, mic acted up for a bit with the older sound card, face tracking horrid finds dust and any thing that moves.
Summary: If I had a choice I would have gone with the newer version that just came out. Glitchy and very touchy with msn and facetracking. Mic sound issues reverberating back ...

Great concept, terrible software
Pros: As usual, Logitech creates a spiffy looking device with good features.
Cons: As always, Logitech software and support is a frustrating, awful experience. It took over an hour to get the software to install properly on a brand new Windows XP machine. Support is useless.

Summary: I got this at Best Buy for $50 off the regular price (it was a return).I was really just looking for something decent to use for video chatting... I find myself using it a lot less than anticipated. The tracking gets annoying sometimes-- especially if you reach in a drawer or turn to pick up your phone-- you'll see your hand, the mess on the floor, and the Starbucks in the trash before the camera finds you again. I have it sitting in between my two monitors... I takes up more desk real estate than I'm willing to part with. I'm constantly moving it out of my way. I've gotten a couple compliments on it, because people aren't sure what it is when they first see it. The mic works great, sound is crystal clear, lighting is ok.
The software offers a privacy shade, cool animated effects, avatars that mimic your facial expressions, and plenty of controls for panning, zooming, quality, brightness, etc...
If you are debating which (higher-end)webcam to get, I'd look at the QuickCam Pro 9000-- it's $40 less, same software, and has all the same specs minus the tracking feature. The HP Elite is nice and sleeker than the Pro 9000 for the same price.-- If you just want something that you'll use once in a while- there are plenty of decent models that go on sale for $29 at Circuit City every week.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

This very expensive Webcam WILL NOT allow the user to save user defined preferences
by JamesTBaines on May 30, 2008
Pros: When it works, it's a great product but, when used with Skype, you will often, very often lose the microphone input.
Cons: When used with Skype, because there is no ability to save the user defined preferences, you will often, very often lose the microphone input.

Summary: When it works as advertised, this is a great product BUT, it does not save the user defined settings. AND, when used with Skype, you will often lose the microphone input which causes you to have to remove the Webcam software, and the Webcam driver package, then re-install to get it working again. Logitec blame Skype, Skype blame Logitec but at the end of the day, I'm still left with the same loss of microphone input which makes the Webcam useless. If there was a way to save my user defined settings, which of course there is not, I might be able to avoid these probems but right now, regardless of how you chose your settings, the next time you re-boot, you have to re-set your settings including the "Follow Me" function. BUT, having said all of that, I would not recommend this product to anyone because first, it is quite expensive and next, because the constant loss of microphone input is an issue well known to both Logitec and Skype and niether has done anything to fix it.
Bottom Line: Since Logitec and Skype cannot be bothered to fix their continual loss of microphone input problem, I would advise buying a much lower cost Webcam with built in mike product which should give you adequate video conferencing without the hassle you get with this product.
I will say though that if Logitec and Skype could get together to solve the audio problem, this would be a great product. But since they can't be bothered to do that, avoid it like the plague unless you are particurlarly keen on un-installing and re-installing the software on a routine and regular basis.1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Good product, little bit pricy
by geosultan4 on January 7, 2008
Pros: Nice design, good functions, novel idea, hi-res
Cons: A bit pricy, the cam movements can be a little jerky and on the loud side

Summary: I actually got the Orbit MP on Black Friday for $20, so for that, it was a magnificent deal. Though if I were to pay the MSRP of $110, I'd be a little put off, though I don't use it as often as other people. But the product is a good one; it'd still be worth the price without the movements. One thing that might just pertain to me is that the software provided didn't have anything on it, so I had to download it off the internet.
