The good: 720p HD video quality at 30 frames per second, 360-degree rotation; inexpensive; LifeCam desktop software offers fun 3D video effects.
The bad: 4MP photo resolution; jumpy autofocus; not compatible with Mac OS.

Pros: out of box installation a snap - or so you would think.
Cons: autofocus cycling makes camera unusable until you turn off TruColor, manually disable autofocus and hard-wire setting. just a poor, poor implementation of the feature. size for clip only usable on laptop - not on monitor with thickness more than 3/4"

Pros: Image quality okay (better than many, but not as good as it should be; clamp and cable configuration very good
Cons: Auto-focus overly sensitive; should have glass lens

Summary: The image quality is all right - decent for a webcam with a plastic lens, but at this price, and at this point in time, it should have a glass lens. However, Justin Yu is correct - the auto-focus feature is terribly oversensitive, and needs to be disabled in the software. I had two lengthy conversations with Microsoft's tech support; while they were more knowledgeable and conscientious than support generally is these days, they were unaware of the problem. They finally called me back a third time and told me they'd run tests and experienced the same problem. Apparently, months later, it hasn't been resolved.
Bottom line: I returned it and bought a Logitech C905. Physically, the LifeCam is better designed - it has a small clamp and conveniently placed wire that doesn't interfere with the camera's motion - but the Logitech has a glass lens that gives a noticeably better image. I did have a bit of a problem with image flicker, but downloaded the new software and that seems to have fixed it. Unfortunately, the clamp and cable configuration is much more clumsy than that of the LifeCam. This is an ongoing issue with Logitech webcams; someone at Logitech needs to go back to design school.
