Summary: Okay, “trash” might be a little harsh, but the game starts off as good fun, however as you progress you become acutely aware of what little effort has been put into this below par debut for the Bust-A-Move franchise on the Nintendo Wii.
The truth is, despite being easy to pick and fun for a while, the game lacks in one vital ingredient...variety. In the main one player mode, "puzzle", you're treated to one looping tune for every hundred levels, so don't be surprised if you start humming them in your sleep. Additionally, a handful of lousy backgrounds are recycled for one too many levels.
The game play lacks in any variety whatsoever, and only pathetically minor efforts have been made to freshen up the formula, such as a couple of UFOs and power-ups, and when a game remains largely unaltered for hundreds of levels...it's in trouble. And even a hundred levels in the game fails to offer any real challenge.
It's pretty much the same story for the other game modes present, such as the mildly entertaining "Endless" mode, that too lacks in variety and any major challenge, however to be fair i've only ventured into this mode once so far.
I haven't played the multiplayer mode, but from the above screen shot it looks horribly confusing with bubbles blasting in every direction.
Speaking of which, the bonus levels in the main game, where you’re required to shoot the bubbles flying in all directions are simply pointless; in fact they’re so pointless it makes you question your own existence! Your reward for succeeding is a power-up, but because you get UFOs on the actual levels that give you power-ups after shooting them, these bonuses lose their purpose.
What was needed to make this game better was a greater variety of background art and tunes.
Smaller amounts of levels which are more challenging...giving the player a certain amount of lives that once used up it’s “game over” would heighten the difficulty, and because the levels per area would be less, no frustration on having another crack!; instead of mute cartoon illustrations as characters, ones that speak and that are brought to life a little? Oh a Bust-A-Move Bash that made use of the Wii’s on-line capability would have been good.
If you are considering buying this, it isn't worth £39.99! It's perfectly enjoyable for a bit, but it just feels Bust-A-Move Bash was throw together, and as if Taito just couldn’t be bothered to make a good job of it!
