Definitely better than the Wii Fit, but...
by AshlieP on July 10, 2009
Pros: Good variety of work outs, helps you stay motivated.
Cons: Cord between wii remote and nun-chuck is too long sometimes and too short other times, doesn't always pick up my movement correctly.

Summary: I really do enjoy this product for the most part. It has plenty of work outs and definitely gets me sweating, especially with all those freakin lunges! WOW! The only frustrating thing is that sometimes when I do the alternating side lunges it thinks I am moving when I am not and will keep telling me to stand still. Also, it will be going at a steady pace and then will hold a rep for a little longer and I will have already started moving, and it doesn't like it when you do that. it tells you to complete the rep fully... Then when I am running or doing the kick backs it won't register that I am actually going at a good speed and it will tell me I am going too slow. BUT, other than those few issues, I really do enjoy this product! I would definitely recommend it.

Way better than Wii Fit
by Lille33763 on July 7, 2009
Pros: Smart, intuitive AI. Ecouraging, really makes you get off the couch.
Cons: A little picky on poses while first starting out. Hard to "run in place" and make the avatar move as fast as you think it should. Resistance band not that strong.
Summary: I got a great exercise from this 'game'. The resistance band is strong enough for me, but not for all. Also the resistance band is basically a rubber balloon, so ...
Summary: I got a great exercise from this 'game'. The resistance band is strong enough for me, but not for all. Also the resistance band is basically a rubber balloon, so if you have severe latex allergies beware, if you're not using you balance board you can wear shoes to prevent direct contact. Still overall, I'm very happy! I'm already trying to get friends to get it.

by joseg66 on June 30, 2009
Pros: Very interactive, enjoy the different exercises and it tracks your progress. Take the 30-day challenge.
Cons: It's all good, maybe make sure you have the space to move!!!
Summary: Great system, enjoy the routine and keeps me motivated. I am 50% complete with the 30-day challenge.

Highly addictive and motivating!
by gabbi75 on June 24, 2009
Pros: Goals can be set and changed to meet user's need
Wide variety of activities- preset activities change daily to offset boredom
Can set own workout routines
Able to workout in low-medium-high intensity levelsCons: Cord between Wii remote and Nunchuk is too short and hinders some upper body activities
Very few activities target abs
Music is repetitiveSummary: I have loathed exercise for my entire adult life and have tried almost every exercise fad over the past 15 years only to find very little interest and dedication in ...
Summary: I have loathed exercise for my entire adult life and have tried almost every exercise fad over the past 15 years only to find very little interest and dedication in the long run. While I do enjoy Yoga and Pilates, classes in my area are somewhat costly and I don't always feel like going to a gym, especially when I just want to get home after a long day!
I started the Wii Active only two weeks ago and am truly addicted. It is super easy to use and when using the 30 day program, the preset workouts offer plenty of variety. Boredom has not set in, nor do I see it setting in.
While most of the workouts in the 30 day program are less than 30 minutes, you can easily add personal additional workouts to meet your fitness needs. For example, I have never excelled in tennis, but really enjoy the tennis exercises. All of the dance exercises are quite silly, but that adds to the fun!
If you are motivated by earning rewards, you can attain trophies for different challenges met.
On the downside, there really are no exercises which target abs hardcore. For someone like me who is not wanting to lose a lot of weight, but merely tone up, this is not ideal. There is also an issue with not always being able to see how to properly hold the remote on some exercises, but with practice you get it. The final 'con' I have is that the music is a bit annoying after a while, but that is a small complaint!
Like other users have stated, I am hooked on this! I have honestly never been this passionate about exercising and wake up every day ready to workout!
I am a teacher, so have lots of extra time to workout right now. However, when school is back in session, the 20-25 minute pre-programmed workouts will continue to be part of my daily routine on days when time is short. -
Okay but can not replace the gym
by pgred on June 6, 2009
Pros: 30 Day Challenge, Predesigned workouts,Custom Workouts
Cons: Have to get used to positioning the nunchuk and remote in order to register your movement. Cord gets in the way

Summary: On my quest to stay fit I bought this program. I am finding this program to be okay but lacking in some areas. Having to hold the nunchuk and remote when performing some of the exercises are quite bothersome. You also have to make sure the devices are pointed in a certain direction in order to register your movement which can actually compromise form. For instance when performing a row when you pull back and return to the start position you have to make sure both the nunchuk and remote is pointed straight down thereby having to flick your wrist. You would not have to do this if your were perfoming the exercise on your own. The resistance band is not resistant at all. I happen to have real resistance bands and utiliized those instead. You are not able to monitor and track your weight. You can track your training progress but you can not track your weight. At least I did not see where you coulld. Also the movements are a bit slow for mie. I do like the fact that you have predesigned workouts as opposed to WII Fit and you can create custom workouts. I do wish there was a cardio workout which is at least 30 minutes long. You can create a 30 minute custom cardio workout but it is made up of 1 to 2 minute segments and at the end of each segment you have to press A to start the next segment. Also there are no ab exercises. This is my initial review. I am taking the 30 day challenge and I have to say the first workout wasn't too bad. I was not sweating but I do feel it in my muscles. Overall I thiink it is a good workout for beginners but it does not take the place of the gym.

Great for a short sharp sweat-fest
by Loopmusic on June 5, 2009
Pros: Great variety of exercises, clear instructions, will definately get your heart rate up with three intensity levels to choose from, lots of motivation to keep going
Cons: No cool down stretches (recommend you do some yourself!!), boring music, thigh strap isn't all that secure and could be larger, resistance band is poor, length of cable between nunchuck and remote can be prohibitive and not all movements register
Summary: Absolutely worth the money, I feel I get more benefit from this than the Wii Fit.

Not that great after all....
by melibee11 on June 3, 2009
Pros: Pros - When I started this it was fun, interactive and motivating, which is my biggest challenge to exercise. The variety is great despite simple looking materials and most of all it is fun and encouraging.
Cons: Cons - My software seems to crash on the lunge activities. It will repeatedly tells me to stand still for upwards of 10 mins. between reps. A friend observed my form and I am iholding still. I usually have to turn the Wii off and start over.
Summary: I like this when it is working. And when I mention the lunges, it is each and every one of them from the standard alternating lunge, the reverse lunge, and ...
Summary: I like this when it is working. And when I mention the lunges, it is each and every one of them from the standard alternating lunge, the reverse lunge, and side lunge with toe tap. After many hours of frustration trying to do 12 basic reps, I end up shutting off the wii and giving up. When the workouts in the 30 day challenge do not have the lunges in them, I can breeze through a work out in 20 min. None of the other lower body exercises has this problem, ie, squats, reverse rowing, inline skating, etc. Has anyone else experienced this?
Based on my frustration, I'd say the concept is great. The overall product is fun and engaging, but the software skip during the lunges just turns me off. I may take it back to the store and still to Wii Fitness (which is boring). -
Great Game Overall; Love All Aspects
by RyanP115 on May 26, 2009
Pros: Focuses on the Western/American fitness philosophy, Great variety, Instant feedback, Measures your calories burned, Provides music to pump you up and get you going, Exercises flow smoothly into one another, Ability to create personal workouts
Cons: Some exercises are a little shaky, Feedback tends to get repetitive after a while, Not a great music selection

Summary: I've had this game reserved since around the middle of April and was very excited when it arrived. My first thoughts when seeing the box were honestly: "Is this it?" That was until I started my 30-Day Challenge. Not only is there a HUGE variety of workouts, but the game can tell what areas you need to work on and will shift the workouts toward them. The instantaneous feedback is great, I have overcome much of my original wariness of using some of the workouts. The music could be better, though I hear talk of EA Trax getting actual artists' music to play in the next installment. All in all, I highly recommend this product and hope that everyone else has as great an experience with EA Sports Active as I have.

Bring home your fitness expert!
by magstudios123 on May 22, 2009
Pros: Extremely user-friendly, practice session available, helpful calorie data and created by health professionals.
Cons: A lot of focus on exercise means hardly any time for fun.
Summary: What better way to keep track of your everyday activities and see how they influence your overall healthy being.

Using leg strap and resistance band are bad
by wombatdownunder on June 1, 2009
Pros: Good exercises.
Cons: Changing between the resistance band and then inserting numchuk in leg band then taking out for free handwork and then changing all again is terrible.
