Summary: The developers did an excellent job mapping and designing the Hogwarts environment, adding minute details, ambient sounds, and small touches of realism. They got great voice acting from many of the actors in the Harry Potter movies. The result is an atmosphere that is absolutely top-notch and captures the MOOD of the books nearly perfectly.
The down side to this title is mediocre game play. Waving the Wii remote is neat at first, but there's little finesse or fine-tuned control required to win this game. Fixing broken statues, lighting torches, and pushing suits of armor to attention to earn "points", gets old after a while. The quests are mildly enjoyable, sometimes quirky, and provoke you to explore the entire castle, which is sort of the point, since they put a lot of effort into the design and layout of the map.
The movement and camera controls feel a tad sluggish, and the lack of a "true" 360 degree camera feels restrictive and frustrating at times. Also, there does not appear to be any real way to "lose" or "fail" at this game. So ultimately it's more of an "interactive movie" than a "game." Think of it like the game MYST, but in Hogwarts instead of D'ni.
Overall it's a remarkable feat of immersion for a piece of software. Love it for what it is. If you buy this game expecting a "wizard action game", you will be sorely disappointed. If you want to spend hours and hours exploring Hogwarts with no pressure and plenty of hidden "easter eggs" to unlock, (or if you are just a fan of the series,) you will enjoy playing through this title.
Description:In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry returns for his fifth year of study at Hogwarts and discovers that much of the wizarding community has been denied the truth about the teenager's recent encounter with the evil Lord Voldemort. Fearing that Hogwarts' venerable Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, is lying about Voldemort's return in order to undermine his power and take his job, the Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, appoints a new defense against the Dark Arts teacher to keep watch over Dumbledore and the Hogwarts students. But Professor Dolores Umbridge's Ministry-approved course of defensive magic leaves the young wizards woefully unprepared to defend themselves against the dark forces threatening them and the entire wizarding community, so at the prompting of his friends Hermione and Ron, Harry takes matters into his own hands. Meeting secretly with a small group of students who name themselves "Dumbledore's Army," Harry teaches them how to defend themselves against the Dark Arts, preparing the courageous young wizards for the extraordinary battle that lies ahead.
