Disappointing.
by jsthorpe on June 5, 2010
Pros: The visuals are exactly what you'd expect, presentation is flawless. Nintendo clearly wanted to continue where it left off with the traditional Mario platform series.
Cons: Not enough room here to explain why I don't like this game. Move on to the summary.

Summary: The controls are truly shocking. why bother to even try to implement "classic" controls and then introduce using the Wii Remote's movement functions, something completely alien to the Mario platform world? Game physics - character movement is innacurate and slow, leaving you with a sensation that you have to anticipate your character's movement ahead of time. It may be realistic, but its totally out of place! The ever-present timer in the top right of the screen only makes this situation worse. I felt the entire game was disappointing and not much fun at all. The difficulty of the levels is probably about right, but I found myself lacking the patience to put up with the appalling control methods... this extends to the map screens too. I got very frustrated with this game, despite giving it more than enough chances... its not at all what I expected from Nintendo. Definitely could do better, especially to justify the price tag. Such a shame as I really wanted this game to be brilliant.

Summary: New Super Mario Bros Wii:
In this e rated game, our famous Mario characters as well as new ones sprout to life. The graphics and storyline are amazing, as well as other super Mario bros games, but it was extremely hard to beat World 1! If you lose your life you go straight back to stage 1 on whatever stage you're on. You need to be good at thinking and strategy games to do this one. The only freestyle mode you could possibly do one player is by going on 2 player and making player 2 stand still and you just play... now how fun is that?

This game is retro and I love it!
by mengels20 on April 22, 2010
Pros: This game does exactly what it was meant to do and that is to make a newer fresh version of the Super Mario Bros you played on your older system 5-10+ years ago.
Cons: The only negative I have is the fact that it can become repetitive, but what game doesn't at one point.
Summary: The bottom line is that this game is a great buy and I would recommend it to anyone who like the original Super Mario Bros games.

Can't compare to other Nintendo games -a disappointment
by jslezak on November 27, 2010
Pros: The graphics are excellent, as to be expected with all Nintendo games. Tha's about it for the pros.
Cons: Doesn't make full use of wii controllers - how about using the nunchuck? Some things don't make any sense: why collect the coins? They can't be used for anything. I agree with the other reviewer that the controls are sluggish.
Summary: I have the Nintendo DS version of the Super Mario Bros and it's 100 times better and more intuitive than the wii version. As I said in the Cons, ...

Summary: I have the Nintendo DS version of the Super Mario Bros and it's 100 times better and more intuitive than the wii version. As I said in the Cons, the coins have no purpose. In the DS version, you can use coins to save the game along the way and buy various mushrooms for additional lives, etc.
Unlike Super Mario Bros. Galaxy 2, this game completely ignores the nunchuck which could add a little more ease of moving around in the game. The controls are sluggish to the point that many times through the game I just waited to fail 8 times and allowed the Super Guide to go through the course for me and move on to the next one.
I'm disapppointed that I spent the $39 on the game. The Mario Galaxy 2 is a much-better designed program. In my humble opinion, I would not recommend buying this game. It's not worth the money.
