It's nothing more than Super Smash Brothers Melee (on the Gamecube) all over again, except the graphics are a little bit better, the music is improved though, but the gameplay is the same thing, the Solo Adventure mode is still as crappy as ever, and most of the Events aren't all that fun... especially if you have to do it with a character you hate playing just to unlock more content or progress.
My biggest complaint is the Multiplayer! Sunday was launch day, but I bought it on monday afternoon and played it all night on monday! The servers kept crashing!!! I would try to start a random battle... I would get booted off the server. Only once did the game start loading and putting me together with other players... until the server CRASHED!!! And it stayed crashed all night until Midnight Eastern Time when I went to bed. I know it's launch day, but so what? How could NINTENDO not expect hundreds of thousands of players to play the Online Multiplayer on launch day? I mean, if World of Warcraft can handle 10 million players, then I don't see why Nintendo can't handle a 3D Fighting Game multiplayer game with only a couple hundred thousand players.
Do I regret buying the game? No. But this game does not deserve the 9.4/10 or huge ratings that many gaming sites are giving it. I gave it a 7/10, maybe it deserved a 8/10... but I didn't want to be too generous because Nintendo could of put more effort into the game! It was rushed! They could of put more time to perfect the controls too! I mean, why do I *HAVE TO USE* my Gamecube controller? The Wiimote is just horrible! Using your Nunchchuck+Wiimote is just as worst. I don't have the Classic Remote, but many Reviews say it's bad too! The only good controls comes from the Gamecube controller. Ugh..... it's not WIRELESS!!! I mean, why is the best controller to play a Wii game the Gamecube Controller and not the actual Wii controllerS??? See what I mean? The game was rushed!
First off, I was disappointed to see that it looks like crap on my new 46" HDTV. Sure that's the Wii's fault... but meh. Jaggies anyone?
Second, it is EXACTLY like SSBM. And I mean EXACTLY. Usually I like game sequels with new maps and better graphics, but in this case the graphics actually look worse and the new maps change so often (I guess this was meant to be a feature...?) that it kind of ruins multiplayer.
Control schemes: I love the fact that I can use the Gamecube controller just as I used it for SSBM. The problem is that this adds to the fact that the game is EXACTLY like it's predecessor. AND the Gamecube control scheme is not nearly as accurate (i.e. you press the button, then action on screen) as it was for the Gamecube. Again, this is most likely because of the emulation required on the Wii's part to run the Gamecube controller, but it's unexceptable.
New characters: Love 'em. Some are really really fun (Metaknight and the angel dude) and others are just meh. I wish they added new attacks for the old characters though.
Singleplayer: Haven't tried it yet, I hope it's good. Since MP has just been meh.
New "Super Smashes": Gayest things in the world. It makes the game feel just like an arcade button smasher where all you had to do was press a bunch of buttons and you're character would do his "1 Hit K.O." finishing move. And the "dragoon" or w/e it's called where you collect the pieces? Lame... Plus if you jump out of the way when they fire it at you...You still get hit. Plus, some characters have wicked "super smashes" that are game winners, while others just suck (I'm talking to you, Peach.). What happened to the balanced classes? Hm?
My overall consensus is that's it's better than the original Smash Brothers, worse than Melee, and plays just like an expansion pack. My question to Nintendo is why it took then NINE YEARS to make a game that doesn't bring anything new to the table.
Description:Welcome to a brawl for the ages, where anything can happen, anyone can show up and all bets are off. In multiplayer games, characters from all Nintendo universes meet up in Nintendo locales to duke it out. In the solo mode called "The Subspace Emissary," the world of Smash Bros. is invaded by an entity called the Ancient Minister and his army of creatures, called "The Primid." Normally, characters come alive in the world of Smash Bros. to do battle, then turn back into trophies when defeated. However, the Ancient Minister starts turning characters into trophies to harness their power, then detonates bombs that suck pieces of the world back into his realm of Subspace. Eventually, all the characters must work together to defeat the invading creatures from Subspace - this is accomplished by playing through side-scrolling levels.
