The good: Streamlined interface; better performance on many systems; easier and more capable networking; integrated CD-R/RW playback and burn features; Remote Assistance tool aids troubleshooting and control of remote PCs.
The bad: You can install XP on only one machine; piddling discounts for additional PC licenses; nags you to sign up for Passport Web account; heavy system requirements.

Summary: The best OS Microsoft have produced. I've been running my copy for six years without any major problems, just two system restores. I had XP home on this PC for three years before XP pro with the same results. Just keep it up to date and give it the odd defrag and it will be a faithfull old work horse.

Excellent O/S
by PrivettP on March 13, 2011
Pros: Very stable and does everything you need- it can do everything Windows 7 can do. Until MS came come up with features more than appearance changed XP will continue to have a strong customer base. MS is trying to kill XP and has lost. Most Popular O/S.
Cons: Nothing at all

Summary: XP is a far better O/S than Vista. For 32 bit, the improvements on Windows 7 do not warrant switching to that O/S for most users. XP is more customizable and less expensive and as long as most software uses 32 bit, except for gaming, it will suit all your needs. With respect to features and speed, there is virtually no difference with Windows 7.
One year after Window7 has been released, XP still the most used O/S. With Firefox 4, MS efforts to remove support for XP to for users to upgrade has been unsucessful. Appears MS will need to innovate a lot more in order for XP users to move to another O/S. -

Twisting my arm
by Liquorpuss on May 13, 2009
Pros: It runs and doesn't crash as much. The built in systems are annoying, you turn something off and restart your pc and it comes back again Grrrrr.(Language bar)

Summary: Let's say I was a software manufacturer and I wanted you to buy my "new" product,or keep buying subsequent versions of the same product. Keeping this in mind, why would I fix bugs, problems, and the old B.S.O.D on my older versions? I can take the same old product and fix those problems and add a few new things and rip you off all over again! The lack of Microsoft's ability and willingness to fix the problems with their older operating systems makes me wonder if they intentionally put bugs into the system in order to make the consumer want to upgrade. This may just be a urban myth, just as the reason a car dies shortly after it's warranty is out of date, but the similarities are uncanny.Ask yourself this,If your copy of windows 98 or any other version, ran all of your applications flawlessly, and had support for new drivers, would you ever upgrade?
I'll never underestimate corporate America's ability to arm wrestle the dollar out of the consumer pocket.I wouldn't doubt it if the software writers don't make the operating systems more processor and memory intensive to drive the sales of new computers with more memory and more powerful processors. How about this: Write us an O.S. that uses even less memory and resources, yet does a better job at protecting our pc from threats.Give it limited support for drivers and updates.I would pay 20 bucks a year for update support for a decent operating system that doesn't lag my pc to death.I am sure there is some legal reason competing software companies can't make an operating system that will run applications made for windows, effectively killing the competition in the courtroom instead of killing them in the marketplace.Having a monopoly on anything is BAD for the consumer. -
Out Dated Operating System
by Strega222 on December 3, 2008
Pros: Speed is exceptional, Stability and Durability is also okay.
Cons: Ease of Use is lacking, the features are few compared to Leopard and Ubuntu, and the GUI looks old and Fake in it's default blue and Green scheme.

I am really disappointed in a Company that makes it's users wait five years for a new operating system only for it to be crappy and force the users who are to stubborn to try any alternative OS's into using Xp. XP in my opinion is old and out dated. We should not even be talking about XP on C-net any more than we should be talking about Mac OS X Jaguar.
