One of the Worst Operating Systems Ever

Summary: Ever since I got Windows XP Pro, I've been experiencing problems. First of all, start up was pretty slow. Then I get a message telling me to send an error message after installation. After a while, I could not access my USB Flash Drive. Every time I try to access the Flash Drive through My Computer, the program just stops responding. Then comes an End Program box and then Error Reporting. Many simple programs such as Microsoft Word stopped responding. This was probably the worst waste of a few hundred bucks.

Worth the upgrade
by weiyc on May 24, 2005
Pros: User-friendly interface, many new features
Cons: Insecure, too many tie-ins with Passport
Summary: Security issues take all the cons, otherwise perfect featurewise. You should definetely get this if your're still using Windows 9x, but Windows 2000 works fine.

Summary: There is only one thing that is an improvement from the previous versions of Windows. Its Remote desktop connection. Other than that, its the same windows with fancy names, worse outlook and useless heavy graphics that slow down the machine.
Security:
Microsoft sucks when it comes to security. Every other day they find a hole in the operating system. The original version had several security concerns and then they provided with service pack 2, which really added to the miseries of the user. It made previously stable programs non-functional.
Speed:
Its firewall made an already slow operating system way too slow. You run your computer for a few days, it gets slower and slower and ultimately you have to reboot the machine.
Price:
The question is the price that we are paying for this operating system is the right one. The answer obviously is no. There are several useless accessories that are there in the Windows bundle but you would never use them but the price includes everything. Why don't they just provide the bare bone operating system without extra gadgets and with the right price.

Most stable O/S since Win 95
by on February 11, 2004
Pros: I have used Win 95, 98, ME & 2000 and I will say that Win XP Pro is the most stable O/S to date. At least when one software hangs, there's no need to restart the machine. Bye bye to "Blue Screen Of Death". Fast boot-up to Windows & friendly inter
Cons: Windows Production Activation (WAP) not too friendly though, when the same O/S CD is used to install on the same machine after reformatting the hard disk. Memory & hard disk space hungry.

Upgrading to XP solved most of my computer problems.
by on December 5, 2003
Pros: Stability and compatibility: XP has them. I'm not an early adopter of new OS but when I finally (and reluctantly) upgraded to XP I was pleasantly surprised to find that it completely eliminated the compatibility and stability issues that had plagued me fo
Cons: Continues the MS trend of hiding important settings in the Registry where they are almost impossibly difficult for the average user to locate and understand. Note to Bill Gates: stop treating your customers like dumb clutzes who can't be trusted to touch
