Awful in mixed mac/PC environment
by JackOatmon on May 8, 2009
Pros: It works fine with the Macs and has an okay, but not great wifi range.
Cons: It has a weak, fickle, unpredictable connection with both PC machines in the house. One has XP and one has Vista, we have tried wifi, direct ethernet, installed and configured the Airport Base Station Agent software, and it's still a total mess.
Summary: Bottom line: Windows users and mixed operating system households, don't waste your money. We're computer geeks here and if we can't make it work, the average Joe ...

great router
by tokeriis2009 on March 27, 2009
Pros: Better range, more stable than the competition. Super simple setup.

Summary: In comparison to the competition, this router is great! Some of the reviewers' speed related problems may be related to how the dual bands are setup. Pressing the 'alt' key while selecting the bands dropdown widget gives better choices than the default. If you choose 5Ghz for n-only and 2.4Ghz for mixed mode, I found both to perform much better.
If first bought the WTR610N first and found it to have flaky connections, poor ability to reach to through the walls of my house and difficult, slow setup through the web interface.
This Apple router just works.1 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

I love it! Worth every penny and then some.
by Jerseyminican77 on January 28, 2012
Pros: The thing works beautifully and it is easy to setup. Range is excellent. Can connect printers and hard drive via USB enabling wireless access throughout your entire home or office, even if HD or printer
Cons: Should have an additional ethernet port.
Summary: Stop being cheap and purchase the Apple Airport Extreme!

Worked flawless for 9 months,But then problems started
by jscott418-21618367473133020464 on October 27, 2011
Pros: Good range on both "N" and "G". Have a mix of both PC and Mac's. PC 's do seem to be fickle on range and speed vs Mac's. Not sure why?
Cons: Expensive for features you get, not very customizable which I guess is good for amateurs. USB port not that handy. HP printer works on it. But 2 way information on printer status and Ink levels do not work.

Summary: I bought mine from Apple as a refurbished unit. It has worked very well for 9 months but has recently been showing in logs to be dropping WAN connection to router. Have had technicians check Cable modem and signal with those being fine. I suspect a festering problem with Airport. I had a older Airport that developed a similar issue. I can't say I am impressed with anything but the range which is very good. Besides that the router does not have a lot a customizable features in setup. I am a bit disappointed in the throughput of the router myself. My family is a mix of PC and Mac's. The Mac's seem to have just as much problems connecting at times as the PC's. I have a Macbook Air running Lion and have trouble connecting at times or I get dropped connections. My wife uses a PC laptop from Dell and has low signal issues with it. Although with our Netgear router the Airport replaced her Dell performed much better in Range and throughput. I think this mostly has to do with hardware compatibility Obviously that helps. It really should not, but it does. For what it's worth I like most Apple products but the Airport does not provide the value it use too. I doubt I will buy another and most likely will choose another brand with more flexibility. Especially after only 9 months this model is having issues already.

Hunk of junk
by ReluctantApple on October 4, 2011
Pros: The most expensive non-wireless modem ever
Cons: What is WITH this thing? Two Apple computers and neither can find the device.
Summary: Overheated as much as it is overhyped. Worked two days and quit. ZERO support from Apple -- what a bunch of losers!!

Just works..... GREAT!
by minnycourt on July 20, 2011
Pros: I use this is a mixed environment and have no problems... in fact, we replaced a dlink and linksys after both being a complete nightmare.
Cons: None for the average household
Summary: Very pleased and when used with airport express, the range is easily extended to meet the most demanding distances.

Great Range & Pretty!
by whereismyhikitt on March 27, 2011
Pros: I've had a Netgear and D-link would always have spotty WIFI on top floor with those, with the Airport i get full connection at all times. Plug and play friendly for novice users.
Cons: Only 3 Ethernet ports, not really a huge deal but almost every other router has at least 4, also connecting external harddrive to the USB can be a pain but once you have it working, it works.
Summary: It's good if you're willing to sacrifice extra ports for sleek design which anyone buying an apple product probably is.

Always works, high speed and incredible range
by Johannes65 on March 13, 2011
Pros: I have 15 devices connected ranging from Apple products (iPods, AppleTV) to Windows PC/laptop and even PS3 and LG blu-Ray player. All with zero problems or signal drops.
Cons: The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is the fact that using an external hard drive through the USB port is rather problematic and slow. I had to reformat my WD 1Tb drive to FAT32, but it became extremely slow. I wish it was compatible with NTFS.

Summary: I have had numerous routers over the years but this is my first dual band router and what a dream. I have it now for over 12 months and the thing just works, be it for my apple products or my PC. I stream Netflix and vudu to PS3 and LG blu-ray player, absolutely zero drops or in-movie buffering. My windows laptop continuously connects well over 300 Mbps. Yes, I initially was hesitant about the price, but the fact that I run 15 wireless devices without any problem for over 12 months makes it all worth it. I read others complaining about range, but this was one of the reason I bought it, as it's far superior to anything else I ever bought. My PS3 in the basement has a 76% signal strength even though it's 2 floors down.
