Good when working , fiddly to set up

Instructions with the device are not clear. You have to disable network security before you even take the unit out the box. With network security disabled then the auto set-up as a repeater does work. Press the button on the back for 10 secs and hold unit right next to your router and it does lock on.
Unpower unit and move it to where the normal network range is getting weak. I used Network Stumbler on a laptop to survey the signal strength.
When located power up unit and then what the instructions DON'T tell you- press the auto set-up button again for 10 secs to boot it into finding your network.
Once it finds the network then you can set the security.
Open a browser (I use IE 7), type in the addy 192.168.2.254 to navigate to the extender, choose 'security' and then enter your security settings exactly as your router. Click 'Apply changes' and wait until unit sorts itself out (seems several minutes).
Then re-apply security settings to your router.
If I had known that at the outset it would have taken maybe an hour rather than almost 2 days to set up.
However, once set it seems to be working fine- signal boosted by 200% at far end of house.
Hope that is of use.

Works out of the box

Cons: If you set advance settings and there is a power outage you have to reconfigure

Summary: Very easy to use, I just plugged it in, told it to find the network, and it was working. You can then configure over air using the ip address 192.168.2.254 in your browser. Unfortunately, its a big house and I also use an extender for the playroom node of the network. You have to basically take down the network to configure the ip addresses of both boxes. If you get a power outage, it all has to be redone.

It works well....when it works

Summary: I tried to use this as an access point with an external antenna, and have it hard wired to my router. I works well, when it works. The problem is that it keeps dropping the connection to my network, and the only way to get it to reconnect is to power down and power up again. This keeps happening every couple of hours. Belkin support is useless.

Does exactly what it should...and with WPA-PSK security
by Lemta on June 20, 2007
Pros: Nice design, has WPA security and slotted holes underneath so you can hang it on a wall.
Cons: The one button setup is useless unless the network you want to repeat is totally open.
Summary: I use this box to extend the range of my Netgear DG834GT (sky router) wireless network and it works very, very well.

I opted for the highest level of security that my router would handle (WPA-PSK) so I needed a range extender that would carry this security on through.
The one-button-setup was not an option for me since my network has security. This will only work on totally open networks.
Easy to setup through the browser based interface. You need to set a password, change it's IP address to one in your router's range and tell it which SSID it has to repeat and the security key it needs.
For extra security, you can also tell it which MAC addresses can connect.
Excellent product. Just set it up, site it where you want it, switch it on and forget it is there. It works seamlessly. You have to give it a different SSID to the one it is repeating so it will appear as another network.
I give it 8/10 (Excellent)1 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Repeater works great, but internal web server does not
by rlw53 on January 17, 2009
Pros: This unit works very well as a wireless-g repeater. With strategic placement, I required only one repeater to carry the signal completely across my house. The secret is to use a different SSID for the child network than for the parent network.
Cons: The built-in web server used for configuration stops responding regularly. This a pretty old unit, and doesn't appear to be fully compatible with modern browsers When the server hangs, you have to push the reset button to get it running again.
Summary: I'll keep it because it works to give me whole-house networking. But it is annoying that its web server crashes so often.

Difficulty in setting up
by josvmartin on December 6, 2008
Pros: Eventually works...I have not had much time to tell the long-term performance
Cons: Could not get it to work as repeater with WEP

To get ...Summary: I have 3 networks, including FON unsecured wi-fi. The one-button connect would not with the unsecured wi-fi. It took a long time, but here's what I did:
To get a secured network to connect, you must attach the F5D7132 to the LAN. Install their program and open their terribly written manual PDF.
In the Control Panel of the wired computer, open network and change TCIP to the IP address from the manual. Using the Belkin program, connect to the F5D7132.
Keep refreshing - it does not connect consistently!
Change to the wireless repeater option.
You might have to try several times to save but it will eventually save.
Change the Base SSID to the exact spelling (and case) of the network you want to repeat.
Search for that network and connect. This will cause the F5D7132 to reboot.
Set the proper WPA type and keys.
Once the F5D7132 reboots again, you should be able to disconnect it and move it to the desired position. -
Great substitute for buying a X Box wireless kit
by dd100012 on November 30, 2008
Pros: Worked out of the box. Easy set up. I used it to proved additional coverage from my Belkin G PLus router and as a wired connection for my son's X Box 360.
Cons: Only supports G not the G Plus functionality of my router.
Summary: Does what I want at a price less than half of the X Box wireless option.

Summary: This router is not worth the savings compared to other G routers. I had this router for 51 days and could stand it no more. I have Vista on personal and XP on work and both had problems. For the last week my work computer would access the router but was unable to connect to the internet. (router problem, I tried my computer on other routers/Panera/etc...)
Please save yourself the time (as I did not) and buy a Linksys. (which I did tonight) -

Summary: This little joy is on its way back to the store this very evening. If you want to learn to hate technology, Belkin's got a product for you. I can have my laptop right next to this little joy and it still will not load videos or most web pages. But when I plug any of my computers directly to it (or to my modem) the pages load immediately. Two thumbs down.
