Works great after disabling MS WZC
Pros: Connection drops resolved by disabling the piece of junk Microsoft "Wireless Zero Configuration" service in Win-DOHS XP. Throughput is good. The connection/signal strength is excellent throughout my whole house with the standard antennas. Price is good
Cons: Connection speed seems to fluctuate a lot for no reason, even when I'm sitting within 25 feet of the unit and the signal strength says "Excellent".

No problems - Great performance

Summary: I was previously using a NetGear WGR614 as a WAP - It died after about a year and a half of use. With the WAP54G (V3), my laptop backs up to my desktop in about 1/3 of the time. No dropped connections. No complaints about the setup tools, but I am by no means a networking newbie.

OK for home but not business - too unreliable with wireless "G" devices.
by nicksgsr on November 18, 2006
Pros: Quick set up. Inexpensive.
Cons: Drops connections, problems with Dell hand helds and laptops. Not much distance - within 30 ft. performance OK - after that drops rapidly..

Summary: I have 16 of these in a multi location business enviornment and now I have to buy more access points/bridges because coverage has become spotty and inconsistent in most locations. Worked great when first put in, but after 18 months not as reliable coverage as I first had. Signal reliability with new Dell hand helds and laptops inconsistent(Dell & HP "G" devices primarily the ones with problems - the old 802 "B" devices seem solid out to 100 ft.) OK for home use but comes up short in business use unless you're in line of sight to and close in to the AP.

Unreliable and problem prone. Support stinks. Do not waste your money on a Linksys.
by nicksgsr on November 18, 2006
Pros: Inexpensive.
Cons: Unreliable, reverts to previous configuration, changes ID on its own. Unstable.

Summary: I have a failure rate exceeding 30% after one year of use. Could not get an RMA approved on the last three units. Have decided to phase out all Linksys WAPs & wireless NIC's either upon failure or reported problems. They are cheap but still not worth the money because of user frustration, failure rate, and poor support. Buy something else.

Compability problems!!!
Pros: Famous brand name. Some people like the blueish casing.
Cons: This product has compability issues with many Wireless adapters. And Linksys products are more expensive than most WiFi products on the market and offer the average features.

Garbage unless DD-WRT
by JigglyWiggly on August 11, 2011
Pros: WIthout dd-wrt crashes over 9000 times drops connections.
DD-WRT fixes everything. Put additional power to TX 119mw on mine and bam REALLY GOOD COVERAGE.Cons: Slow, low specs on this unit. 2 megs of flash and 8 megs of ram LOL.
200mhz cpu, I have mine oc'd to 237mhz.Summary: Great back in 2004, I still use it at home. 1000% reliable with dd-wrt.

OK, but could be better.
by IeuanFawr on September 10, 2009
Pros: Default setup easy, but then needs to be made more secure.
Offers AES algorithm and WPA2 system.Cons: Default settings well known, personalised settings easily lost. Default IP address of 192.168.1.245 may go AWOL with Netgear routers with default gateway of 192.168.0.1. Can be temperamental - overheating? Range OK, as is general performance.
Summary: An OK Wireless-G Access Point, but needs an overhaul to be top drawer.

Shakier than Bambi on ice
by TRex999 on December 1, 2008
Pros: I like the color blue
Cons: I bought two the first barely worked and failed after a day the second never came to life. Spent an afternoon with tech support - who did a good job - and got one of them running. But alas it only survived a couple hours.
Summary: Avoid these!

Didn't Work

Pros: None at all that I can discern

Summary: I'm tired of buying things that 1) Don't work and 2) Are defective. I bought this to use with a cantenna. I could not get it to work on my network out-of-box, and when I unscrewed the antenna to plug in the cantenna, the nut holding the connetor in place came off and the connector fell into the box. Crap. NO QA. I think I've had to return half of the things I've bought at Fry's in the past year for stupid things like this and I'm tired of it.
Specifications
- Manufacturer: Cisco
- Part number: WAP54G
- Description: Wireless-G is the upcoming 54Mbps wireless networking standard that's almost five times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B (802.11b) products found in homes, businesses, and public wireless hotspots around the country - but since they share the same 2.4GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices can also work with existing 11Mbps Wireless-B equipment. The Linksys Wireless-G Access Point lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B devices to the network. Since both standards are built in, you can protect your investment in existing 802.11b infrastructure, and migrate your network clients to the screaming fast Wireless-G standard as your needs grow. To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G Access Point can encrypt all wireless transmissions. The MAC Address filter lets you decide exactly who has access to your wireless network. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility. Future-proof your wireless network with the Linksys Wireless-G Access Point. You'll enjoy Wireless-B connectivity today, and be prepared for a high-speed Wireless-G tomorrow.
