Finally! one that works
by pkipnis on October 4, 2005
Pros: Small foot print, easy set up and reliable performance

Summary: After having two D-LINK and one SMC bridges DOA out of the boxes. I had to go to 5 retailers including 3 national chains to find the one WET54G in all of Silicon Valley. The other brands were less expensive but were poorly made given our 3/3 DOA average.
We were online in about 5 minutes after reseting the IP's on our 4 computers and the 3 laser printers on our office network. The documentation is good, the software easy to understand and the wizard works! Imagin that. Lets see how well it lasts, but I think it will be as solid as the Linksys 8 port hub that connects everything.3 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.

Terrible support from India!!!

Summary: Well after I have spent over an hour trying to configure this device, it still does not work. I am wondering if its defective. It just does not show up on my network at all... Tried with two different routers, so I cannot configure it. I have called tech support...wow! These guys in India don't even understand the questions they are asking!!! I will never buy another linksys product again; their support people are reading scripts that are completely unrelated to my problem. I am programmer, so I know the basics of networking, and after 4-5 silly questions, I have asked for someone with a "clue", that resulted in 35 minutes of hold time....
)) Nice! Linksys, get your act together, and hire QUALIFIED support people, preferably some, who speak ENGLISH!!2 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.

Summary: Version 3 of this bridge has an in-built problem that will cause it to hang after a time of operation in WPA PSK mode. V2 of the bridge was OK. I've confirmed that this is the case with 3 brand new bridges out of the box.

Cons: WPA-PSK bug further confirmed
Summary: As previously mentioned in another review, this unit does hang after a rather short period of time if used in a WPA-PSK. Wish I had read the review beforehand...

a reliable bridge!
by scruzer123 on July 24, 2009
Pros: once it's set it's great.
Cons: configuration is annoying.... but worth the trouble.

Works perfectly, but expensive
by rlw53 on January 17, 2009
Pros: This unit works as advertised and does everything it claims.
Cons: It's expensive when compared with the WRT54G router which can be flashed for free to provide the same capability.
Summary: I'll keep the WET54G because it works, and because I didn't know about the re-flashing capability of the WRT54G until later.

Installation a disaster, phone support horrible
by txtech on January 4, 2009
Pros: In theory, it works
Online help from blogs requires a) patience, b) high level of tech competence, c) luck (perhaps)Cons: Impossible to get to not interfere with existing wireless network
Two calls - people were very helpful - but wrong
Online blogs had better instructions but eventually threw up my hands (thank you for Best Buy for taking it back)Summary: Go with Belkin Powerline AV - works easily, simple installation,

It works, but the company is broken!

Summary: My recent Linksys RMA Dept. experience has left me sour with all Cisco products that I own, and sadly I own 2 WET54G's. They have lost a customer that believes in product loyalty when the product line is worthy, but the SOP routine when you have a broken unit is the nightmare not worth reliving.
To abridge, I sent my original broken unit to LINKSYS and they sent me in return a broken quality assured replacement. OK, another RMA and apologies, repackage & repeat step 1. A full month after this began I receive an old unit with a broken antenna. (??!!) Another RMA dance & apology SOP routine (forced to use a credit card to cross-ship, no exceptions!) and I receive (drum-roll please) my ORIGINAL unit repaired. A month of aggravation and I'm done with LINKSYS. -
Piece of cake to set-up :)
by jomobco on December 3, 2007
Pros: WPA PSK compatible, slim and easy to adhere to a TV where you're adding a slingbox
Cons: I could never get the included software to find the bridge

Summary: I'm used to using Linksys web based interfaces so I connected to the product with a cable and then connected without using the enclosed CD. It worked like a charm. I set it up for a secure network with a fixed IP and it's working great with my slingbox. I just ordered a second one for another application.
Specifications
- Manufacturer: Linksys
- Part number: WET54G
- Description: Connect any Ethernet-equipped device to a high-speed Wireless-G Network. The versatile Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge can make any wired Ethernet-equipped device a part of your wireless network. At home, use the Bridge to connect game consoles, set-top boxes, or computers to your Wireless-G network and its shared high-speed Internet connection. In the office, convert your Ethernet-wired printer, scanner, camera, notebook or desktop into a wireless networked device. It's completely driver-free, so it works on any platform and under any operating system! Since there are no drivers to load, setup is a snap - configure the network settings through your PC's web browser, then plug it into your device and go. And physical installation is simplified by support for Power Over Ethernet. With an optional POE Adapter, you can mount the Bridge wherever you want - power and data are both supplied through the Category 5 Ethernet cable. You can also use the Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge as a kind of "cable-less cable" to connect remote areas together. Maybe shipping is all the way across the warehouse from receiving. Or maybe you want to set up a home office in your detached garage. With a Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge in the garage, and another one (or a Wireless-G Access Point) in the house, you're connected - no digging trenches, and no overhead wires. Let the Wireless-G Ethernet Bridge from Linksys open up exciting new possibilities for your wireless network.
