Huge Step Backwards!
by WeekendWarrior1 on November 11, 2010
Pros: Improvements - multiplayer regarding killstreaks - Killstreak kills don't add towards killstreak total. You are not constantly being bombarded by choppers and harriers. That's about it.
Cons: Graphics are TERRIBLE. Its like you are playing Call of Duty 2. Yes, they are that bad. Very cartoony, takes away from the "simulation" feel and fun.
Campaign is awful. I mean awful. Extremely scripted, linear, and FAKE feeling. CARTOONYSummary: If you really really need to play a new Call of Duty, I guess you should buy it. If you are a big fan of the Modern Warfare games, this ...
Summary: If you really really need to play a new Call of Duty, I guess you should buy it. If you are a big fan of the Modern Warfare games, this will be a huge disappointment. The only semi-redeeming aspect of the game is multiplayer, but even that is relatively weak because of slow control response, horrible graphics, and long waits & lags.
If I could get my money back, i would.
I normally play new COD games all the way through the campaign in a single sitting, and then hit the multiplayer up for hours and hours. With this game, I keep putting the controller down to find other things to do. I made it through 2.5 levels of Campaign before I got extremely angry with how bad this game actually is. I am a huge COD fan, but CODBLOPS is a slap in the face. Treyarch can throw themselves off a cliff for pulling one of the biggest heists in history - stealing all that money for this piece of junk game.
Also - don't trust the game reviews on websites - they feel pressured to give it good reviews. Go try it at your friends house if you think you want it. I highly advise playing the game a little before buying it.
I will never buy another game made by Treyarch. EVER. Modern Warfare 2 did have its annoying faults, but overall it is 1000x better than this game. The controls, the graphics, the story, and the smoothness of multiplayer (not to mention SPECOPS) is all much, much better.
Oh yeah, and Zombie mode gets boring by the 3rd time you have played it.
If you know someone at Treyarch, please slap them for me. -
Well what can I say it was fun for a few days (multi)

Pros: Monetary system, selection of weapons, great maps, menu setup, customization of weapons and titles.
Cons: sound effects, gameplay, graphics of both terrain (maps) and characters. I found the characters to too look very cartoony and the maps fell flat. Match making server keeps dropping my team and not connecting.
Summary: First off this is a multi player review. I have not played the actual game. That being said I KNEW that this game would be different as it was developed ...
Summary: First off this is a multi player review. I have not played the actual game. That being said I KNEW that this game would be different as it was developed by Tryarch and not Infiinity Ward but that being said I was looking for improvements as it is a newer version.
My first night of playing I had a blast, the maps were good, voting for the maps was awsome and the guns/attachments and monetary system really outstanding Now I was playing by myself and the servers were amazing jumping back and forth to different types of games joining games in progress which my friends were in no problem. But when we formed a group of more then 3 players and tried to enter a game someone would drop or it just wouldnt go.....we tried for over an hour with other people hosting the party etc but we ended up having to enter a game and everyone trying to get into the same room seperatly to play together.....hopefully this will be resolved in the near future.
Now the sound effects kind of irked me, the explosion from the gernade launcher is weak..usually I can rattle my house with my surround sound but now it sounds like a small pooof lol as well with the firearms. Also the footsteps bug my quite abit, running over water to jungle flora and it sounds the same *** lol. My last complaint would be the graphics as I had mentioned above everything seems kind of cartoony and not as gritty and raw/detailed as mw2. The difference is night and day.
All said and done I will be keeping and playing Black Ops and MW2.
The main difference I have for both these two editions is that when I play MW2 I can play all night and keep telling myself just one more game just one more game....with Black Ops I was able to play and just turn it off at midnight and head to bed.
So I guess eternally I know which one is the better multiplayer game and I truely feel that this one did not advance the series but brought it down a notch to world at war.
Activision PLEASE BRING BACK THE INFINITY WARD DEVELOPERS lol
Until then I guess I will split my time between the two games :p

It's like the COD franchise is going BACKWARDS.
by Larry-Gallegos on November 10, 2010
Pros: It's new. But it's not better and nowhere close. A very poor follow up to MW2 , thanks to Treyarch.
Cons: The game engine is the same as WAW. Infinity Ward didn't make this game and that is evident. Not worth $60.
Summary: Don't spend $60. Wait till the price drops considerably or go ahead and buy World at War now. Considering they feel like the same game.

I hated WaW and I hate Black Ops
by Joneser3 on November 10, 2010
Pros: I can tell they put a lot more work into it graphic wise, but not enough to make me like it more then COD MW2.
Cons: Same game play that has me scream the words "I hate this game" that WaW had me doing. The problem is they make you think that it's a tougher game to be good at but it's the sluggish response on multiplayer that is at fault. Just not responsive.
Summary: If COD MW2 wasn't so great or never existed I would probably love this game. But since it does exist I can't stand paying for and playing something ...
Summary: If COD MW2 wasn't so great or never existed I would probably love this game. But since it does exist I can't stand paying for and playing something that is not as good by any means. It was a better try then WaW but still falls short of MW2. I would also love to add that I am very angry with all the reviews from the major league gaming magazines lauding this game as if it were the best thing since sliced bread. To me it really seems that all these major reviewers had something to gain off of a positive review. I'm honestly going to sell this game to some poor person who doesn't know any better and be happy that I didn't trade in MW2. I guess I'll play it for another year or so until the Infinity Ward takes there rightful spot back into the franchise.

Sequel satisfies and provides content/gameplay to boot.
by Slipgatex on November 10, 2010
Pros: Gameplay mechanics (ie, firing a gun, diving to prone, misc killstreaks) feel balanced and very comfortable. Maps are evenly balanced.
Zombie mode, Theater mode, and mini-games are added bonuses on top of an already iced up cake.
Customization!Cons: Polish - This game will not stand out graphically in todays games. It is nice, but not phenomenal (excluding 3D).
Also, there seems to be an issue with which replays are stored in your "Recent Games". I couldn't find some of my matches in the list.Summary: Call of Duty: Black Ops has set the bar for customization alone in the FPS genre. The sheer amount of things you can alter is blissful. Summary: Call of Duty: Black Ops has set the bar for customization alone in the FPS genre. The sheer amount of things you can alter is blissful. Even so, the customization doesn't seem to be the most improved aspect of this genre, it actually seems to be the balancing. Not only are the maps balanced, but the guns seem very solid so far. The new credit system is also a welcome addition - allowing you to purchase what you want, practically dictating your own after game rewards.
Call of Duty: Black Ops will keep you interested for quite some time considering all of the modes to dump your time into, whether normal player matches, or wager matches, or zombies, or combat training (a very helpful bot game to step up your A game), or even mini-games and customization.
If you haven't already, do yourself a favor and pick up this game, it's more than worth the $60 going price. -
What a let down! A total waste of money.
by rdcou812 on November 11, 2010
Pros: To tell the truth I can't think of anything good I can say about this game
Cons: They butchered every aspect of this game. Good luck trying to drive or ride anything I can only describe it as totally sketchy.
Summary: As for the long awaited nazi zombies...It is like a very bad cartoon. Even some of the comments the characters say are so juvinile it's pitiful! The zombies ...
Summary: As for the long awaited nazi zombies...It is like a very bad cartoon. Even some of the comments the characters say are so juvinile it's pitiful! The zombies from world at war were awesome as were the graphics and gameplay I totaly expected a game that was at least as good as the last one. I can't believe they ever releaased this piece of junk.I havn't seen game play this bad in years. After all the hype and all the waiting this is what they came up with?. Next time I'm not buying until I play a new release. Gaming should be so much better than this by now. Whats the problem?

A mediocre mish-mash of unfinished ideas.
by dtSawyer on January 1, 2011
Pros: The call of duty style of gameplay is still there, a few additions in multiplayer and a new setting are always welcome
Cons: The call of duty style is exactly that, nothing really changed, but infact was dumbed down a bit. It's just a re-labeling of the old games plus a few ideas from other franchises as well
Summary: I'd like to be able to enjoy this game, but I'm very unimpressed. If the single player let me actually play it instead of watching the game play ...
Summary: I'd like to be able to enjoy this game, but I'm very unimpressed. If the single player let me actually play it instead of watching the game play itself, that would be nice. Also the graphic seemed to shift a bit by the action becoming smoother, yet the models become a bit choppy. Absolutely nothing changed about the multiplayer other than re-arranging a few things and re-using ideas from other call of duty games again and again. There is hardly any originality other than the setting and a few playlist ideas that can be given to Treyarch that didn't stem from Infinity Ward or Bungie. I would love for Treyarch to take their time, and make their own addition to the franchise, rather than puking out another re-labeled game with a bunch of unrefined gameplay. it's completely lacking the finished feel to it, as if it's still in the pre-release stage.
Bottom Line: This game is just another re-make like World at War, but I'd love to wait a while if it meant a well-rounded call of duty experience.0 out of 3 users found this user opinion helpful.
