Rent this game before you buy. Trust me

Summary: I wanted to like this game. I really did. I played the demo and this is what got me to buy the game. The Demo was cool…the game was not. First off you cant use anything in the mall, you are limited to the items you use. Second the first boss I came to, the guy you meet on the roof top when the game first starts… I shot him over and over, the guy aint wear a bullet proof vest, just an open shirt, and he wasn’t dying. Totally totally unrealistic. Having to go all the way back to the secure room to save really sucks. The game is constantly, constantly loading all the time. This is the xbox 360 folks absolutlly no reason for this. Mostly loading the cut screens and you can fast forward through them, but it still got old really quickly. Weapons that break so often, got old quick. No reason for it. They made the game time sensitive to give you a feel of what it would really be like, to make it more realistic? Then why is it I cant kill everyone? Why does it take 100 bullets to take down bosses? Eh, no. The only fun thing about this game is coming home from work and killing a couple hundred zombies in different ways, but this isn’t good enough for a game. Sorry CAPCOM you have made great games in the past but this one isn’t one. Oh and BTW CNET must have been paid off to give this piece such a glowing review. Ignore it folks trust me, this game isn’t good at all.
Updated
Initially I said you can’t kill everyone you want… Well you can unless they are in the safe room, so I was wrong. I agree with the first opinion here….the walkie talkie going of ever minute is EXTREMLY annoying and there is no way to turn it off.
The thing that bugs me the most is Capcom going on and on about how much they focused on trying and wanting to make this game as realistic as possible. Yet they succeeded in no area. Time moves 5 times as fast as in the real world. Think your going to get 3 days to do what you need? Nope try more like 5 hours. They designed this game so that you HAVE to play it over to lvl your character up then go back and try again when you fail.
I repeat the only thing partially fun is running over and killing as many zombies as possible. Other then that, this game was one big FALSE advertisement. I’ve been eyeing Lost Planet….made by Capcom as well. Loved the demo for it that I downloaded…. But now I am seriously thinking Im not going to pick it up for fear it will turn out like Dead Rising. This is just annoying that I paid 60 dollars for this paper weight.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Great game so far, but the save feature is a pain
by chwaldron on August 10, 2006
Pros: Almost every way imaginable to dispatch zombies
Cons: Save feature makes it very challenging, 4 disc read errors / crashes already

Summary: Only slightly into the game so I can only comment on what I've played so far. This game has started to be more challenging than I previously thought, mainly because of the game save feature. You can only save in a few places and if you are in the middle of a timed task without a chance of finishing it from the save point you're SOL.
My last disaster was when I was saving two Japanese people and was almost back to the safe area and the location of the next case/level when it 6AM and it was basically game over. Then came the only saving grace to the save system. You have to start all over, ala old NES games, but you get to keep all points and earned attributes.
So my next task will be to go through the first part of the game, save two survivors on the rooftop, take a picture of them hugging for alot of points, maybe kill another 500 zombies, and start over again, until I can reach a higher level for the character. Oh and if you answer you're radio then a mission, usually timed, starts, but if you're trying to accomplish another goal that mission will enivitably fail. So ignoring the beeping of the radio so you don't start that mission is very annoying.
But i think this keeps the replay value of the game very high. I don't think I will get tired of killing zombies with golf clubs, lawn mowers, or chainsaws anytime soon.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.

Whoa Finally...

Summary: In the age of gigantic RPG chronicles, it SEEMS to be a relief to anticipate a good shoot'em up thiller like Dead Rising. Whether it's the XBOX 360, Playstation 3, or PC, just give me a virtual axe, a Rockstar energy drink, and a zombie plague and I'm set! I mean am I the only one who goes about their daily tasks always looking for a potential weapon to protect themselves from a blood thirsty zombie hoard? I hope not. And for those who join my thought process, let's set our sights on this jem of death; nay the events that will most inevitably come upon us all.

Terrible game
by achalemoipas on November 9, 2006

Summary: I can not believe the ratings this game is getting on the web and almost everywhere else! This game is simply terrible, the controls are terrible, the voices are terrible, the acting is terrible, the A.I. is amazingly bad, all characters are dumb, the texts are terrible, the weapons all pretty much do the same thing except a rare few, the story line doesn't make any sense, not that it should be realistic, it just isn't consequent with itself. I hated this game, finished it in less then 4 days, kept thinking something cool would eventually happen or that my character would receive some cool skills or something, I was wrong. You get bored of the zombie killing in about 30 minutes, the rest is more of a chore then actual gameplay. So glad I didn't buy it. Oh and the ending is terrible too. Only solid point is the gore, they delivered that. Everybody says this game is exciting, they only think it's exciting because of the time constraint, if these missions were'nt timed, the game probably would'nt have been released because the missions are very easy and boring, you just need to hurry up a bit.

The "Momento" of zombie survival horror games
by Coconutchuck626 on September 4, 2006
Pros: Plethora of weapons, more zombies than you can shake a stick at

Summary: Dead Rising is about, that's right you guessed it, dead rising.... to do havoc on a shopping mall. After of a few minutes worth of camera-play, you are immediately submerged into action; assisting fellow survivors escape rampaging undead while trying to snap pictures for points. Soon after you can learn the the fine points of zombie slaying with the tons of weapons at your disposal. Then I decided to save my game, turn off the 360 and get a Coke.
Worst. Idea. EVER.
While most other games that exist actually ALLOW you to actually SAVE your progress, this game conveniently decided not to. I thought it was a glitch. I did it again. And again and again and again. Apparently it only saves when it wants to. Why would anyone play a game where it's the save system that makes it frustrating and not the actual gameplay, itself?
I guess this makes this game great for people that wish to play through a game this long in one sitting. Not great if you're someone like me who actually HAS a life.
I won't play this again until Capcom releases a save system on Xbox Live for free (because THEY screwed up, not us). But I'm not holding my breath.0 out of 2 users found this user opinion helpful.
