This game recently passed Halo 2 as the most played Xbox live game of all time, and its only been out 2 months! If you don't have this game yet, your really missing out! -
lots of gears - trouble shifting

Summary: i like this game and i'll play it a lot - i know that. but it still leaves me with a feeling of blown expectations. there were times when the graphics would jerk or freeze, there were times when the scenes between characters would pause during speech - giving you that "low-budget-movie" feeling, and the music is the worst music i've ever heard in a war game. so NOT heart-pounding.
that said, the graphics are amazing, the surround sound is very realistic, and it is one of the most intense games i've ever played ... but ... i know they can do better. -
Another one of these... these... empty games
by KungGuld on January 2, 2007
Pros: graphics.... thats all really. oh and the blatantly obvious action names
Cons: bland story, bland characters, horrid gameplay, cutscenes, non innovative game development, Duke Nukem 3D was better than this...
Summary: This is what modern videogaming has come to, and it is depressing to see...
The same stuff over and over, and the players choices diminish with every game.
For some ...Summary: This is what modern videogaming has come to, and it is depressing to see...
The same stuff over and over, and the players choices diminish with every game.
For some reason people can't seem to play a game without someone yelling them orders left and right.
This game: Gears of war, has so many flaws that i don't know where to start... OK lets start with the choices you as a player get. First of, the level plannig has every map set up like a dragrace track, you actually start to believe that you're left with NO choice at all where to go when the game gives you a fork in the level!. This fork of course shows up with an active question that pauses the game: "WHICH WAY DO YOU WAN TO GO? LEFT OF RIGHT?(it's always left or right)" Just so you know that you actually DO have A choice, right? This along with the constant order yelling leaves the player with no sense of exploration at all or interrest in the world that the game takes place within, which is a shame for the world is indeed pretty.
So thats that. Next point? well combat and AI: Every single combat in this game has been pre designed, scripts tells the game when to spawn your enemies. There will never be a single enemy on patrol or just walking about, because they're all triggered. The AI may be good but you'll never really notice because the combat in itself is pretty bad.. The good things first:
Cover, you can always find cover and the system for taking cover is OK, in fact you're encouraged to utilize this coversystem all the time. The action sprint is actually the best thing about this game, (that is not graphically related)its got a nice hand camera thing going and it doesnt plainly ruin the game like most other things. The assault rifle has a chainsaw, which is quite fun, but its primary function isn't. there is no precision, and no power. Its just boring to use.
Yes the Bad things: There just isn't any feeling, the fact that you can't sneak up on enemies or just play the fight as you'd like takes all the thrill out of it. This also helps in de-personalizing every single enemy, they just swoosh by one by one, hence why you won't even bother to notice their AI, they're just blank...
The overall design is... in one part good... and all other parts, you guessed it, bad. The look of the ruined city you play in is great, if you would actually stay in one area for more than 20 seconds you may have actually been able to enjoy these sceneries. The character art is really!... nothing special... Huge action cliché guys in even more huge armors being the last hope for humanity in the final plot which upon the fate of the whole universe lies!.. yeah. And the enemies, they have hard white skin and sharp evil teeth and predatory eyes that are really cool and evil. They are of course even more huge than the characters and wears even more huge armors. Vin Disel would be proud.
So mindful design out of the way what does this game actually have?
My summary: This game has stunning graphics some of the best i've seen, and it's no wonder why X360 chose this game as their flagship... It just so sad to see that this ship-of-the-line only carries one single cannon but has room for 149 more. -

Summary: This is truly one of the best video games I've ever played. I think this is the first game to take advantage of the power of next-gen gaming. The graphics are unreal, and Epic re-invented third person action games with the true-to-life military "shoot and hide" tactics. The only criticism is that the single-player mode is short, but you have three difficulty settings to attempt to defeat on single player along with a VAST multiplayer mode that never gets old.
