Best Xbox 360 Shooter to Date.
by eggweed on November 14, 2006
Pros: Graphics 10/10 Ease of controls 9/10 A.I. 9/10
Cons: Disc reading errors. My wife nagging me to get off the xbox.
Summary: Great game, I could hardly put the controller down. It may be that I was starving for a decent Xbox 360 game to play.

The story line is a little lame but who cares the graphics are incredable. There is no save mode and the multiple check points are well spaced. Controls are a breeze after the short learning curve. Disc reading errors are somewhat frustrating only because I had to stop playing....lol Not sure if its the xbox or the game. First review I have ever written and the most important thing I want to say is YES this game is worth buying. -
Gears of War Disappoints...

Summary: So after putting off buying the game that was so talked about I finally went and got it after it's price reduction. I am THOROUGHLY unimpressed. The setting graphics are pretty good and interesting, but the player graphics and animations are poor, especially in the cinematic scenes. I've had a lot of trouble using the cover feature which is a necessity in the game... Rainbow Six Vegas did this WAY better. It's seamless and flowing, whereas in Gears of War it's choppy and sometimes you can't get behind something that you're standing right next to. To even jump over a wall you have to get in cover behind it first...you can't just jump over it. The first two guns I got shot exactly the same except for one was burst and one was automatic. They had the same bullets, same sound effect, same visual effect. I started out playing the game on the second difficulty level (out of three) seeing as I've played a ton of online Halo (1, 2, and 3) and Call of Duty 4 (where I'm level 4 prestige) and found that I had to start over on the easiest difficulty. Even if you get a headshot on the enemies, you have to pump at least a full clip into them before they'll die...the chainsaw melee is a pretty cool animation but it's hard to get off because if you get shot while you're revving it then your rev will get interrupted. Overall I'm really disappointed.

How can Halo 3 Beat This?

Summary: Did you love Halo but wished there was more gore? If so, this is the game for you. The graphics, storyline, sound, and gameplay are almost perfect. They even have excellent voice acting if you would believe it. This will go down in the record books as the first and only game that I have beaten multiple times. I just beat it on the casual setting (pretty easy really) and now I plan to also beat it on hardcore and insane settings. It is really that good. The designers stated that they were trying to make a game with soul, I think they pulled it off. While nothing in this game is 'revolutionary'(cover feature from Killswitch, the chainsaw melee from various doom style games, etc), it has all been done before, they have done an excellent job of bringing it all together. The one thing I hadn't seen before is the active reload function. When you press the reload button you have the option of clicking it a second time (with precise timin) to get a damage bonus and to reload faster. This is pretty neat and it tests you under pressure.
The online play is sufficient, but not really special. It works ok, and it provides and arena for gorey battles with real people. lol
The only two things I don't like are the chainsaw function and not being able to jump. Somehow, the main gun in the game has a chainsaw attached to it. If you get close to an enemy you can hold down the B button to start and use your chainsaw. This sounds cool, but works poorly. It is really hard to get it to work since it is unclear as to when you need to start to the chainsaw to make it work and how close you need to be. Consequently, many online matches are won or lost based on a final chainsaw battle which really seems based on chance. The lack of being able to jump causes some problems. If you want to go over an obstacle, you have to first take cover behind it, and then climb over it. In muli-level maps it is sometimes not clear what you can jump down from. In some cases the game stops you from going off a ledge that is only about 2 feet high. Imagine running from the enemy and getting boxed into an imaginary corner.
Trust me, this is not for kids. There is a ton of disturbing violence and a lot of cursing by the characters. (example, you can see the inside parts of the enemy after using your chainsaw and blood splatters on your screen right before your character yells sh!!T yeah Biotch)
In summary, if you want an intense MATURE game that is as good or better than Halo, this is your game.0 out of 1 users found this user opinion helpful.
