I will give the game a 6 out of 10.frustrating at times
by kwietstorm9 on August 15, 2009
Pros: Great Graphics, the running play is awesome, fans are great when playing in a tough arena.
Cons: Defense is horrible, I can tell by the first two plays by the Computer if there going to score this stretch. They tend to get a first down on 3rd and 25, every interception you throw will get ran back.
Summary: EA sports need to evaluate more b4 they let games come out, have real people test the game. Overall, i play it daily but it also pisses me off daily ...
Summary: EA sports need to evaluate more b4 they let games come out, have real people test the game. Overall, i play it daily but it also pisses me off daily with the calls and defense not doing anything, and can somebody tell me where swim went to, its like the offensive lineman is holding you the whole time.

O9 was better than 08 but 10 takes two steps backward
by dagreat45 on July 17, 2009
Pros: The overall game looks great. The players lok life like, they run like real people, the options given are great.
Cons: The defensive play on this game is just stupid. It makes no sence to play the game on the hardest setting becaue you cant stop the computer on offense at all. playing defense on this game will make you sick. EA is wrong for putting this crap out
Summary: Bottom line if madden is like this I wont have a game to play unless i go and by back and buy ncaa 09

A lot of fun, but annoying at times
by thehukuis on July 16, 2009
Pros: Great graphics, awesome new animations, tons of depth.
Cons: Just enough glitches to make you throw your controller, strange rating of teams, no FCS teams included, lack of information given in interface, no more spring drills.

Summary: I previously owned NCAA '06-09 for Playstation 2, and loved all four editions. Each one felt like an upgrade over the last, and all were a blast to play. This version is the first game I purchased for the 360 (in fact, I purchased a 360 just for this game).
Upon firing up my spiffy new console and starting up a dynasty I was immediately suprised that my favorite team (Michigan State) was rated a C overall. I didn't think much of it until I noticed that teams like Central Michigan and Indiana were rated with B's and A's. I also noticed Iowa was rated much lower than I expected in comparison with teams from lesser conferences. On the whole it feels like EA didn't try hard enough to achieve a realistic skill balance among the teams.
The second thing that struck me as odd was my first season game against "FCS Northwest." On the PS2 I never played an opponent that wasn't an actual school. Even the D1-AA schools were represented by name.
Once I got into the game, the interface only added to my frustration. When you're calling a play, it is impossible to see what down it is and what yard line you're on at the same time. Waiting for the display to cycle burns up an unacceptable amount of time on the play and game clocks. Additionally, the AI coaching will sub out players when they are tired without notifying you in any way. I'd prefer to know *before* I call a Speed Option that my freshman backup running back is going to be on the field instead of my star.
Then come the bugs. When cycling players during a play, the computer will often switch to a player nowhere near the ball, who has no possible chance of making a play on it. I hit "B" to switch players and instead of going to my linebacker downfield it switches me to the defensive end on the ground in the backfield. The interface displays kick/punt returns as negative yardage, but it's calculated correctly on the stats sheet. Occasionally receivers will not even attempt to make a play on a ball thrown directly over their head.
The last real issue I have with the game is the omission of spring drills. In '06-09 on the PS2, these felt like drills you would run in an actual football practice, and they were all fun without being silly. In '10 for the Xbox 360, they're goofy and unrealistic. Bowling? Two teams playing "Horse" with their field goal units? Bring back the good drills please.
Despite all the problems with this game that drive me nuts, the bottom line is I can't stop playing it. The graphics are very sharp, and the new animations for this year are absolutely gorgeous. You can actually see every facemask and hold on a replay, and decide which teammates to celebrate with in the endzone. The new game plan feature that allows you to select your level of agression in different situations adds a new level of depth to the game. It doesn't feel too easy or too hard (unless the glitches get involved) and overall feels a little bit more "real" than previous versions. Hopefully a patch will come out to smooth out the bugs and perhaps add the FCS teams and spring drills as downloadable content.
