Summary: This retake on WWII can be either viewed as a stroke of pure genius, or as a cheesy remake. In this fictitious world, Winston Churchill is killed in 1938, and America doesn't enter the war until Nazi forces storm through Europe (unchallenged) and reach american soil. This will either be lame, or interesting to you.
The game starts off as you on a skyscraper, with Nazi jets and paratroopers pouring in. As you make your way down the burning building, you strip a Nazi paratroopers of his SMG, and proceed to using him as a human shield against the other paratroopers. After fighting your way down, you link up with resistance, and begin to defy the invasion. Fro here on you begin to fight the seemingly all powerful Nazis, with their huge tanks and blimps (which mount rockets and machine-guns), with virtually no help. You are the underdog, one man, and a few helpers, defying the Nazi's. This is a key element to the game, the sense of always being on the underhand. it makes the game more exciting, and alive.
The weaponry and vehicles appears to be advanced version of real WWII era weapons and vehicles. These range from a mediocre SMG, to a sweet rocket launcher. By combing these weapons with tactics like the human shield, and the melee kill, it makes for an innovative on the ground experience.
Multiplayer is not that great. It starts with the essence of multiplayer itself. Multiplayer pits you against other people, with really the same strengths as you. This makes the game loose its appealing 'underhand' theme. It really isn't that fun. There isn't a system of upgrades and weapons like in COD 4. It shouldn't be part of the game. Plus, those servers are rather sluggish. Stay away, and you are in the clear.
While it may not boast any outstanding features, like COD 4 or Halo 3, Turning point fall of liberty is still a decent game. The interesting plot (good or bad,m depending on how you see it), nice weaponry and vehicles, and the recurrent theme of the 'underdog' make nice gameplay, but suckish multiplayer and oddball takes of on the ground must-haves keep this game from reaching its true potential.
